Spotted this lady along the street, all bundled up in the sub-zero degree cold, churning out piping hot crispy egg rolls like a well-oiled machine. When I stopped to watch (ok, gawk), she offered me a piece to sample. And it was the entire roll mind you, not just a piece broken off an end. I took a bite hesitantly at first but when its fragrant eggy flavour hit me, I chomped it down real quick. Then promptly bought a packet of ten (see inset photo) for just 10 yuan (about SG$2) to take back to my hotel.
The taste is a cross between the "love letters" we have during Chinese New Year and the crispy pancakes I came across in Vietnam a couple of months ago. In other words, it is an all-too-easy-to-crunch-on snack.
