Chanced upon The Headless Baker when I realised they were opening an outlet at Star Vista, but did you know that their original store was just about a 15 mins walk away?
Located within Ghim Moh Hawker Centre, THB sits amidst hawker stores and stands out with their beautifully assorted and arranged tea cakes in the display.
As we reached a lil' late (almost closing time), we managed to snag up their Earl Grey Lavender ($3) and Pandan x Gula ($2) teacakes!
Each teacake is dressed with a drizzle of flavoured icing on top which isn't too sweet and goes well with the tea cake sponge.
For the former, as you bite into it, a hint of lavender perfumes your mouth & nose while you taste the earl grey. With lavender bits topping the icing, the light scent prepares you for the enjoyable bite.
As for the latter, it may sound sweet when you read the name of it, but the well-balanced tea cake feels like having chendol (without the milk & ice) in a warm toasty bite, which is rather heart-warming.
Both tea cakes also got the approval of the in-laws for being not too sweet & rather enjoyable.
