After many months of gestation, Burpple has launched a new premium membership programme designed to help everyone explore curated restaurants, cafes and bars, where 1-for-1 mains and even special set menus can be enjoyed. It’s only $9.90 a month (similar arrangement as Netflix and Spotify) with the option to cancel anytime. I mean, seriously, how cool is that! And the moment you sign up, you’ll immediately have more than 130 places (it is that quantity right now but the number is always rising) to choose from for dining. So I made a beeline to Firebake as it was on the list.

This casual restaurant in Katong is already famous for its gigantic, built-into-the-premises wood-fired oven from which their popular loaves of sourdough and other bakes come to life. But their seafood dishes are what I love as well.

I enjoyed a most fabulous lunch of “Scottish Blue Mussels cooked in White Wine with Onions and Dill” ($30) plus a “Grilled Mediterranean Seabass with Kailan in the most luscious Lemon-Caper Sauce”. Guess what? I didn’t pay a cent for the $25 Seabass dish because I redeemed it 1-for-1 with #burpplebeyond. If you do the Math, this single visit already made my $9.90 subscription fee more than worth it.
