If you've eschewed going green because of the notorious prices tagged to healthy eating, then a visit to this popular Bukit Batok hawker stall may well change your mind. With prices averaging at a very pocket-friendly $4, Jing Yi Vegetarian makes going meatless affordable and more importantly, tasty. Burpple Tastemaker Wei Zhi Chiang highly recommends the Fried Dried Hor Fun ($4). The deceptively simple looking dish, which comes with just vegetables and a few slices of mock fishcake and mock meat, won her over with its smoky wok hei. The hor fun comes with eggs, so heed her advice to let the chef know if you'd like to go without. Other tasty eats include the Tom Yum Mee Soup ($5) with its punchy, tangy broth, the wet Hor Fun ($4) and the Deep Fried Mushroom in Sweet and Sour Sauce ($7). The latter sees a plateful of crunchy deep-fried oyster mushrooms, slicked in a coating of sticky sweet and sour sauce — wonderfully addictive and great to share. Pro tip: According to Wei Zhi, a 30-minute waiting time is common, especially on the first and 15th day of the lunar calendar.
Avg Price: $5 per person
