Gyutan Don With Salted Spring Onion Sauce

$28.00 · 1 Review

Thanks to Burppler @happygreedyfoodie, I got to learn about this place. Opened a couple of months ago at Sunshine Plaza, it is an eatery with a rather unique concept.
The owner Mr. Tan Min Li, who’s half Japanese and half Chinese, collaborates with a good mix of well-known F&B establishments across Japan to bring their signature creations to Singapore.
On my first visit, I chose a local specialty of Sendai in Northeastern Japan, the grilled Gyutan (Ox Tongue). It’s available on its own but I went for the Don version (since they use rice from Nigata prefecture) with Salted Spring Onion Sauce. It had 150gm of ox tongue and I really like how they cut it into thick, chunky pieces for a firm bouncy bite.
The accompanying two sauces were appetising in their own way. So I alternated dipping the ox tongue in the oil-based salted spring onion and the subtly spicy miso paste (this contains jalapeños) to get the best of both worlds. If you order the classic Gyutan Don which costs $1 less, you only get fresh lemon juice as a dip.
By the way, “Deli’s Kitchen” does delivery too, so do check out their Facebook page for their partners for that.
