Indonesian Prawns in Claypot

Easties, drop by Joo Chiat Road for some no-frills, hearty zi char with the fam. Order their addictively tangy Assam Fish Head ($18) with loads of vegetables and pineapples. Crack open the crisp, flaky Yam Ring ($18) to uncover a smooth and fragrant yam filling. Otherwise, the tasty Indonesian Prawns in Claypot (from $16) is a foolproof option, where buttered prawns sit in a spicy, milky broth. Save some space for the delectable Fried Pork Belly ($10) — best paired with sambal belacan!

Housed in a coffeeshop where Da Dong Prawn Noodles operates by day, Mellvin Seafood Restaurant takes the limelight when night falls. For a late night supper sesh, share the Indonesian Prawns in Claypot (from $16) with a super lemak, spicy gravy!

Fell in love with this dish after having it in JB so I knew we had to get this when I saw it on the menu at Mellvin’s Seafood. Glad to report that it’s just as tasty! A spicy, milky broth that’s super lemak, making it great for drenching almost everything on their menu in it. The prawns have been butterflied, so it’s not too difficult to extract the meat too. At $16 for about 6 prawns, I’d say it’s pretty worth it, but I’d get this just for that yummy yummy gravy!
