French Duck Leg Confit ($15.90) - This was divine! The duck was so moist. Goes well with the mash. Not a fan of peas & corn, looks & tastes cheap.
Immanuel French Kitchen is located next to Alexandra Hawker Centre. What makes them stand out is that of course they serve French cuisine which is not a normal nor natural sight in a hawker centre. The only ones who have paved the way for affordable French food is Saveur but even then that's in a restaurant setting. Thus, I was curious to check this place out. The fact that IFK is situated in a cluster of western food stalls (Stew Kuche, Seasalt, Two wings) is that it gives the diner a variety of choice, thus enhancing the entire dining experience. They do their part by setting checkered tablecloths, which creates a rather homely and intimate setting. In terms of ambience, despite it being in a hawker, it was pleasant dining experience.
Zooming into the featured dish, the Duck Leg Confit. A staple of French food but by no means an easy dish. I felt that my duck leg was slightly charred on the outside, as you can see from the slightly black-coloured crust. However, the dish was flavorful. The texture of the crisp skin and the tender meat was done well. The complementing mash was also extremely delicious, not being too buttery, but also retaining a soft and easy-to-eat texture. For what I'm getting at a hawker, I was more than pleased.
Heartiness (portion): 4/5
Tastiness (product): 4/5
Worthiness (price): 4/5
May not look like much, but it's pretty filling. Creamy mashed potatoes, tender, fall-off-the-bone duck with crisp skin, sautรฉed cabbage and a lovely homemade sauce. A steal at $15.90
Proof that you get what you pay for, this is far from the best renditions of confit de canard I've had. But at less than $20, it is pretty decent and a good enough fix for when you're craving this classic without the frills and price tag of a finer dining establishment's.
One of the better ones around! One mouth and a smile was brought to my face. Skin was light and crispy while the duck meat was soft tender and flavourful at 15.90 NETT.
Duck confit was good. Skin was crisp and meat was tender. Paul finished the whole dish rather quickly.
Another value for money dish. I totally dig duck confits and this scored 7.5/10. The homemade sauerkraut was underwhelming but what is there to complain with good mash and melt-in-your-mouth duck fat underneath crispy skin?!
Meat was cooked to perfect tenderness coupled with crispy skin. Nice!
