Char is a cantonese restaurant known for using western and asian culinary techniques for its cooking.Pictured is the roasted pork and their signature char siew served in a platter. While the roasted pork was so-so, I highly recommend their special char siew. The char siew have the perfect layers of fat and meat that creates a softness that melts together in the mouth. Great blends of sweetness and smokiness from the char grilling.
This stellar roast meat joint is sure to please the entire family! Go for the Double Roast ($24 for 350g), consisting of Charβs signature melt-in-your-mouth Special Char Siew and Roast Crispy Pork Belly. While these are not applicable for 1-for-1, you CAN double up on the flavourful Hong Kong Style Stir-fried Mian Xian ($11.80) and Beef Hor Fun ($12) for staples.

Previously at Guillemard Road, Char has relocated to Jalan Besar just opposite from Kok Kee Wanton Mee. Occupying the first and second level of the Singapore Lee Clan General Association, this industrial chic restaurant dishes out quality Hong Kong-style roasts in air-conditioned comfort. If you fancy, bring a bottle of wine to share (corkage is only $25). Budget 100g of melt-in-your-mouth, super fatty Special Char Siew ($7/100g, minimum order of 300g) for each person in your party and be sure to pre-order your roasts while making a reservation to ensure you get your share before they sell out! The wok hei-ladened Beef Hor Fun ($12) and the Salted Fish and Chicken Fried Rice ($11) are great for sharing β portions are big and pair well with the roasts. If your group of friends or family gets particularly loud, opt to sit on the second floor β itβs almost like having a private room at no extra cost and you can have whole thing, wellβ¦not have, but, like, borrow for the night.
Avg Price: $16 per person

The signature item at Char that is a must-order. Combining old-school techniques with modern cooking methods, Char's charsiew is done sous vide with a sticky honey sauce that coats the meat. The meat today is again a little on the leaner side, but if you don't mind it being that way, it's pretty much still as memorable as the one I had a while ago.
Even the white meat was yummy!

A life-changing, life-affirming experience, and deserving to be the locus classicus for glazed char siew. The stupendously fatty char siew has but a mere sliver of chewable flesh in each block, every other inch being unadulterated, molten sweet fat which melts on your tongue with an irresistible sultriness and the celerity of an ice cube under the blazing sun on a Lim Tua Tow Road pavement. 4.5/5
On Sundays, everyone should eat roasts. My roast of choice? Char's Char Siew.
