A great venue, with a cheery tropical theme, plush sofas and music memorabilia spread over 3 storeys, let down by typically average cafe food. My poached eggs were hardboiled, the bacon hard, and the smoky broccolini a little too overcooked. Come for the coffee and vibes, but don’t stay for the food.

Gluten-free pancakes are a poor substitute for the real thing; they are invariably stodgier and less appealing. Case in point are these almond and buckwheat flour versions served with banana, silky coconut cream, blueberry compote, toasted coconut and maple syrup. An overly saccharine combination if anything.
