Strong mix of flavours, with sweetness from maple unexpectedly dominating the combination.
Burnt Ends has been on my radar for a long while, and comes highly recommended. This tapas-style dish was tangy and smoky, with crumbled feta adding to the kick.
Give this a miss. Sounds interesting, but tasted like a gimmick.
Honest opinion: the hand-brewed coffee tasted diluted. The house blend espresso, on the other hand, was good stuff.
Came here to taste the Esmeralda Geisha but unfortunately they don't roast those beans unless there's a sizable order because they are so expensive. Had the Maragogype instead which turned out to be the first single-origin bean I actually don't fancy as I thought it smelled and tasted quite savory, which will take some getting used to.
Ok, I admit it's not the best fried chicken ever but I'm addicted to the sauce. Wings offer the most surface area: deep-fried chicken skin drenched in soy garlic sauce -- 'nuff said.
Self-styled Wagyu-equivalent of duck but doesn't live up to its claim. Fat was unevenly distributed. I've had better at La Ristrettos. Likewise, Tim Ho Wan does that type of bun better.
The dish that started it all... I'm not a fan of the Singapore version of Hokkien mee but one look at that and I knew it was going to be awesome. Remember to specify that you want the claypot version (prices start from $10) as the default is regular Hokkien mee without the roasted pork!
Bespoke burgers! Pretty fun and sinfully tasty. My creation: brioche bun with single beef patty, topped with avocado, caramelised onions and bacon, and smothered in melted Swiss cheese and wasabi mayonnaise. You can just imagine how good that combination tastes... Only thing is the beef patty was over-cooked and hard, but I will still be back!
Heard that the maker of awesome waffles from Strangers' Reunion had moved on to Assembly Coffee, so came down to try it out. Verdict: unimpressive. Waffle batter was light and fluffy but lacked the aroma of freshly-made waffles -- strange because the cafe smelled wonderful but the waffle itself didn't. The salted caramel sauce and ice cream tasted like generic off-the-shelf stuff -- just didn't do it for me. And they ran out of beans so I couldn't have a cup of V60, which just made me grumpy...
UNBELIEVABLY OVERHYPED. Decent value for money but if you factor in the cost of time spent in the queue, then please save yourself the bother -- Teppei is never going to be awarded any Michelin stars. I can get the exact same thing from Teppei Syokudo at Takashimaya, albeit available for takeaway only.
Highly recommended by the waiter and served piping hot out of the oven. Crust was crunchy and smelled pleasantly charred but the cake itself was a little heavy and I couldn't smell or taste any apricot... The ice cream was stock standard and unmemorable so didn't help alleviate the stodginess of the cake.
