Giving this place a second chance and was pleasantly surprised! The brunch menu obviously surpassed the lunch. We got the breakfast works and shakshuka. Yay!
Was deciding between this and Kin Moo just a few stores down, and chose this since it was more crowded (oops). Anw we got the tomyum soup with prawns, eggplant and minced meat and pad thai. All 3 dishes were really good, especially the soup!! The soup had just the right balance of spiciness and sourness, and very full bodied π
Got the Chrysanthemum Ginger Milk Pudding and Red Bean paste. While the paste was quite normal, the pudding was really unique and yet not overwhelming. We could see how the pudding formed as the waiter poured the fresh milk into a bowl with chrysanthemum petals, and then we had to give it 4min to solidify. The texture created was smooth, silky and melts in your mouth. Would totally go for it again ππ»
Got the 1 for 1 Ribeye steaks and it was quite underwhelming. The steaks were served slightly under lukewarm temperature and the presentation was below expectation. The meat was more chewy than tender, but was fortunately not tough like other steak places and was still decent enough to finish. The sauce was quite good, and the meat was tasty despite the serving temperature. The sides were below average too. Overall fine for a 1 for 1 experience, but would not call it a worthwhile or great steak!
Everything was not too bad, tomyum could be spicer. But the fried pork collar was tbh really yummy - right amount of oiliness, garlicky aroma and more π
Got the lunch mains - Duck Cassoulet and Wagyu Beef Cheek Rendang. The duck dish was more of a casserole/stew, on the saltier side. It had slivers of duck meat, some tomatoes and beans, nothing amazing! The rice in the beef rendang was pretty lemak (as my friend said), but the beef wasn't that tender. Overall both dishes are just fine, maybe cause we got the lunch mains and not the brunch which they seemed more popular for.
This store is actually 3 restaurants combined to one - Fatbird, Taan and Huolala. So it offers a wide range of food from chicken pot to skewers and mala! Got only the mala this time cos the waitress informed us that whatever we ordered ($20 worth of mala) was quite alot for 2pax, and can hold back on the skewers (how honestπ ). The mala was really on the spicier side, and portions were generous. Though one thing missing was the numbing effect of the peppercorns. We were also recommended to try their tomato soup, but it fell short of expectations cos we thought it'll be like HDL but really hahaha. Its a good to have but not a must have. Can just stick to a full portion of mala if you can take the spice. Oh yes! And they've happy hour promo for draft beer with a full pint of suntory at $12 ππΌ
Got the seafood pasta in tomato sauce cause now you've too too up an additional $3 for the white sauce say WHUTT... and the prawn pesto. Both were fine, not amazing this time. The prawn pesto was a little salty tbh. Maybe cause the pasta was a little too hard, not that I like soggy overcooked pasta but still....π
Got the Healing Bite (Lavender Honey) and Longan Honey drink - added the pear crunch this time!!! Think of it like red ruby, but with pear instead of water chestnut, healthy and yummy keke. Shout out to the guy who went out of his way to get the pear crunch for us, cause when I ordered he was saying that pear crunch was out of stock. I might have looked abit too upset π .
Damn it sounded good on the dinner menu, at the price point of $18, but the meat was really really tough and chewy. Don't think its the fault of the chef - but more of the cut of the meat. Please order something else.
Got the Blood Orange & Mango, and the Dark Chocolate for our 1 for 1 takeaway π The Dark Chocolate won, hands down! Intense, rich and just the right sweetness. The Blood Orange & Mango was a little too sweet for my liking, and had that artifical sweetness similar to those bottled fruit juice..? It was not a gr8 experience, bloody hell~
Was really empty - as was most parts of the mall. Got the Superhero and another flavour in medium, as recommended by the owner. Also got their signature coffee - local kopi brewed with coffee beans! Was a gr8 dessert place + not crowded so quite pleasing. Besides, how bad can Acai go???
