Beautiful brunch in a beautiful cafe.
One of the many merits of Clan Cafe is definitely the ambience. The decor, the waitstaff uniforms, the music exude sophistication and also quality.
One such quality dish is the scrambled egg brioche. The fluffy scrambled eggs is heaven sent and the melted cheddar cheese elevates the dish to divine status. The caramelised onions were light, sweet and balanced out the savoury sriracha mayo spread on the beautiful brioche bun. The bacon was perfect and the protein made this an all round hearty dish for anyone craving for a good breakfast.
Lucky enough to get a spot to dine at Magic Square in their penultimate week of the pop-up.
Since the beginning of June 2018, three young talented chefs have had, what I could only imagine to be, an arduous but fulfilling journey. Theyâve been honing their craft, adapting their menu until these recent weeks in which theyâve fine tuned it to offer the best of the best.
This âbest of the bestâ menu ($78++) consisted of 9 amazing courses. Each course was a star in their own right and did not overpower each other.
Pictured from 1st row L-R: (1) Hokkaido scallop, white fungus, chrysanthemum vinegar, yuzu kosho; (2) Mozambique lobster, aged tangerine, sesame; (3) cheong fun, gado gado, fermented prawn emulsion: (4) Japanese turnip, flavours of roasted chicken; (5) mantou-prata, candlenut miso, rempah oils; (6) duck liver tart, black citrus powder; (7) 10 day aged local duck, alliums, shaoxing; (8) osmanthus marshmallow, persimmon nectar; (9) corn miso pudding, smoked caramel, burnt bread.
It was a seamless culinary journey but I took my time to consume each dish to take in the wonder of it. Youâll never find similar dishes elsewhere. For the sake of all foodies, I hope that this pop-up will continue because I need more.
Had a great dinner at Sideways located at Jalan Besar.
The restaurantâs listed on Burpple Beyond so I had to give the 1-for-1 three-course set meal (two set meals for the price of ~$49++) a try which includes a small plate appetiser, a main and a dessert.
Thereâs quite an extensive list for the appetisers and mains but only one option for dessert which was their house made tiramisu. But I loved the tiramisu so itâs all good there. Thereâs also a good variety of cocktails and beers to go with the food.
For my appetiser, I opted for the âstairway to heavenâ medium rare ribeye steak. It was tender, well-seasoned which was great for such an affordable price. For my main, I chose the smoked pork belly. It came with sides of artichoke and avocado tapenade which were delicious but the pork was a tad tougher than what I would have liked. My fellow dinerâs blackened barramundi was excellent so you might wanna consider that instead!
Overall, I would definitely come back to try more dishes as well as the brunch menu! :D

One of the best san lou hor fun around!
I love eating at Ka Soh. Youâll know that youâre gonna have a great comforting bowl of noodles, no matter which one you order. It probably has to do with the restaurant being around for almost five decades.
I had its Ka-Soh signature san lou hor fun which can be shared or consumed by an hungry individual. I was the hungry individual. One can smell the noodles before it even arrives at your table due to its distinct wok hei aroma. The starchy noodles are packed with fresh fish slices and crunchy bean sprouts. Sprinkle some slices of green chili and youâll have an awesome comforting dish.

Love the texture of these ramen noodles from Ajisai!
One of my favourite food courts in Singapore is Hokkaido Marche at the basement of Orchard Central because it houses everything Japanese. Itâs always hard to choose what to eat and itâs not necessarily a bad thing.
I was drawn by the sheer vibrancy of these yellow noodles and how customers slurp them up with little resistance. I ordered the Hakodate Chashumen ($15) which comes with more slides of tender chashu. The star however, is still the noodle. Soaked in that tasty clear broth, the QQ noodles really are a treat.

One of my new favourite places!
I spent Valentineâs Day dinner at The Gyu Bar and I was amazed at the food and the service offered! I opted for the chefâs omakase ($138++) which was described in the menu as a 10-course gastronomical journey. Well, the meal really lived up to its description as each course was a marvel of its own, and a story to tell as the chefs meticulously tell us about each dish and its origins. There were oohâs and ahhâs aplenty as we tried the various cuts of beef that melted in the mouth.
$138++ for 10 courses at this level of quality, culinary expertise and service is hard to come by! Canât wait to come back!
