Nonya Chendol This stall is always highly rated for Chendol. There was a long queue during lunch hours. I was quite unimpressed by the overall taste of this dessert. It might be better than the average food court but definitely not the best for me.

Weather is horrendous!!! I think I can do with more than a bowl of this chendol!!! $1.50 per bowl is definitely friendly to the pocket. Drizzled with gula melaka from melaka and topping such as homemade chendol (green strips) & red bean, my tummy is happy.😁😁😁

Sweetest Watermelon Don't think they serve desserts but this was so good it qualifies as dessert. Also the fruits and salad bar were free flow with purchase of a main so I indulged

Cheesy Burg 19.8++ The burger was much smaller than expected, and while it has a decent sear and was rather juicy inside, it had about 10 small pieces of sth hard which made it a chore to eat. Pasta was soft and not really impressive, and it was the only thing that was unanimously unfinished on the table beside mine. The cheese, however, was quite sharp and its umami shone alongside the beef(which tends to overwhelm milder cheeses).

3 scoops ice cream (225NT) 🍨 ⭐️ 3.5/5 ⭐️ 🍴Known for their fancy pastries & huge array of ice cream (17 types of chocolate ice cream 😱 + different tea & fruit ones), #miyahara is a should try when in Taichung. It’s really tough choosing from the close to 40 flavours available but the patient staff allowed us to sample quite a few. We went with 100% chocolate, green tea & tieh kwan ying. Do note they also allow you to choose 3 toppings for 3 scoops (another difficult choice) and the toppings range from biscuits to pastries & cheesecake, a showcase of what they have in the retail shop. It’s a generous bowl of ice cream great for sharing & beating the heat. While the ice cream isn’t the most smooth in texture or rich in taste, they are of interesting flavours and we liked that they aren’t too sweet. Triple Scoop + Waffle Bowl Ice cream at Miyahara Ophthalmology department - giant triple scoops with wide variety of toppings for 245twd (S$11) We picked the /smoked uganda 80% cocoa / mascarpone raisin/ "between dreams and life" (tea concoction of red tea/mint/rose) with cheesecake, chocolate biscuit, banana and meat pie (Place's interestingly named after the optometrist Miyahara who constructed this building during the jap occupation!!). Anyway, ice cream here was smooth but flavours we chose wasn't outstanding. Kinda got cheated by the Chinese name 马斯卡邦葡萄 turned out to be raisin instead of grapes 😅; we loved the tea concoction though - interesting mix! Waffle bowl wasn't fragrant enough either. There are about 63 flavours to choose from by the way. Friend summarized this as "nice to look at, big portion but pretty ordinary"

Dim Sum Although it is not really that accessible (you still need to walk for 5 mins to reach here from the nearest bus stop), the price definitely attracted many people to come and try it. For only $1.30, you can have a basket of Siew Mai (3 pieces) and many other choices. Located at Primz Hub coffee shop and open 24 hours.

Baguette everything Garlic Toast ($1.50) was decent. Had the Hazelnut Lava and Portugese tart for breakfast the next day and they were also alright (after heating up, of course). The hazelnut lava was pretty substantial and the baguette base was surprising and complimented the lava quite well. Portugese tart was meh.

Apple Lava I don't have much else to say about them already hahaha. I started eating them when they were a fledgling business.

Matcha Bun With matcha and chocolate filling. Damn good. And very cheap for what we get.

Roast Meat Stall Decided to order from this Roast Meat Stall after seeing it on google review. Ordered the 1 portion meal ($8.50) which I think is enough for 2 people if add rice. 1 unique thing about this stall is they served ah char. The roast meat is the best i have tried. It doesn't have the burnt and salty taste. Roast duck is also good but char siew can be improved. Overall, a good place for all the meats dish

Ho-Bee Roasted Food Seeing a steady stream of customers at Ho-Bee Roasted Food, I joined in the queue as well. Since many of them ordered the 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝘂𝗰𝗸, I chose that as well. The meat was tender and juicy, but the glistening skin wasn't as crispy as I'd hoped it was. The achar on the side was surprisingly good, its crunchy and sweet-sour profile providing both a textural and flavour contrast. Overall it was pretty decent, if a little too oily. Beef Rainbow Bagel Rainbow bagel slab with beef patty and melted cheese. May have look scary with the colourful bread as sometimes colourful = poison 😂 The beef patty was quite juicy, and topped with a layer of cheese to give another enhanced flavour. But the bagel was mehz, just think bread lol. Btw, this is a pop up store at a charity carnival.

Rainbow Burger I got this at the Geylang Ramadan bazaar for $10. It's double the price if you dine in @ their brick and mortar restaurant. To be fair, the ingredients are slightly lesser than what is served at their restaurant, plus there was an hour wait for it. Nevertheless the patty was very juicy!

Orh Nee, Egg and Cheese Tart Throwback post - Finally get to taste June Bakery's golden trio again Loved the orh nee tart after trying it previously. However, they have gotten so popular that GB slots are just getting snapped up in seconds Buttery crumbly crust is on the softer side for all tarts and sweetness / "cheezy-ness" is just nice. Overcooked Eggs & No Distribution System What bugged me most was the inconsistent service - showing preferential treatment to what I assume are regulars, & a really bad bad attitude to others. There isn't a proper distribution system for the eggs either - when I was told to wait for my eggs, I did, but then I noticed portions being taken away by other customers that ordered after me. Oh, & as you can see, the eggs yolks are pretty cooked (I prefer mine actually runny). This made for an unpleasant breakfast to start the weekend with. Not keen to return.

Good Coffee, Ordinary Kaya Toast with Soft Bread I don't recall having such an unpleasant experience the last time I was here, but that was 7 years ago so perhaps things have changed. Coffee is good; Kaya Toast is ordinary with the bread really soft (I prefer mine toasty & crispy) so IMHO it's not worth trying. (Continued in next review)

Traditional Breakfast Set Traditional charcoal-grilled kaya butter toast set that comes with soft-boiled eggs and Nanyang coffee in a nostalgic and old-school coffee shop. I love the atmosphere here where it feels like I'm being teleported back to the 1980s with marble tables and a very old-school setting that is pretty hard to find these days. Toasts were the fluffy (not crispy) type with butter and not too sweet kaya. The eggs were huge and done to perfection. The service is a little slow but understandable with a very old uncle managing everything on his own.
