Located somewhere along the crowded stretch of Joo Chiat's shophouses, I discovered Lau Hock Guan Kee sometime during my early university years. Since then, I've continued to patronise them regularly, especially during weekday supper hours. The aunty that serves the tables often comments on my (ahem) 'good' looks, and never fails to tease me whenever the frequency of my visits start to dwindle ever so slightly ("ah boy ah, why so long never come and see aunty?"). What brings me back time and time again is the fish head curry. The stand out items in the dish are the vegetables (brinjal, okra, onions, etc.) soaking up the generous serving of curry, and leaving a trail of sweetness, and a slightly tangy, spicy sensation on the tongue.
