Hidden gem of a Japanese pastry shop Set for 1 ($12) included a slice of cake as well as a drink. Chose the Mille Feuille - how do you even pronounce this? - as well as an iced fruits-loaded earl grey tea. Loved the cream and raspberry jam in the Mille Feuille, but didn't care much for the puff pastry. The iced tea though, so refreshing! I still think about it until now.

Uji Matcha Cake [$40] Birthday cake choice this year is Chef Yamashita’s Uji Matcha Cake! Only thought that the toppings didn’t really match the cake, but otherwise it was a very lovely one to have - light cream all around and especially enjoyed the middle matcha cream that was distinctly bittersweet. Sponge was soft too. We had the smallest size but they have many sizes to pick from to suit your occasions

Coffee Cookies, Almond Cookies I love both the cookies. Buttery and fragrant and also affordable at $6.80 per pack. Cny period and others are selling cookies at cut throat prices. I don't really fancy the fanciful tins of some shops. I rather the shop spend less and pass the savings on to the consumer. Just my personal opinion. I am going to eat the cookies and not the tin anyway. On the left of the picture is the Earl Grey financier. Somehow I don't really detect the fragrance of any Earl Grey. I will give the financier a miss.

Banana pancake stack One of the more consistent and affordable pancakes in town . Forget those flat and inconsistent and expensive ones from cafes - go for the real deal . Ask for your pancakes to be “ cooked well” if you prefer an American style pancake as opposed to a soufflé style ( which is a little wet inside ).

Matcha soufflé pancakes. Fluffy , aromatic , good genuine matcha flavour . Excellent.

$12.90 nett a small cosy outlet serving authentic lasagne. the single portion is just nice. too much will be jerlat. not as cheesy as the last time I had though.

will def come back again!! the first word that comes to mind when I think of lasagne is “meaty”, so I was surprised to see vegetarian options🌱 offered here! I had the NORMA ($11.90) mainly because it had the strongest tasting cheese🧀🧀 I loved that the layers weren’t mushy or undercooked, with eggplant, mushroom & pecorino cheese stuffed in between!

Cheesy Burg 19.8++ The burger was much smaller than expected, and while it has a decent sear and was rather juicy inside, it had about 10 small pieces of sth hard which made it a chore to eat. Pasta was soft and not really impressive, and it was the only thing that was unanimously unfinished on the table beside mine. The cheese, however, was quite sharp and its umami shone alongside the beef(which tends to overwhelm milder cheeses).

Cafe In Mid View City This cafe serves Taiwanese food. We ordered their Zeppin Braised Rice ($5.80), Phoenix Tail Prawn Roll ($5.80), Signature Egg Fried Rice ($10.80) and Mini Waffle ($12.80). Service was good and waitress even apologised for the longer wait than usual to be served due to Christmas Day lunch crowd. The food is also of a high standard, with the braised rice very close to what you can get in Taiwan. The pork is sliced into cubes instead of minced. Slightly sweet and savoury. The mini waffles requires a wait of 20 minutes but it is quite a work of art and definitely Instagramable. The Signature Egg Fried Rice is not your standard serving of fried rice with egg coated grains of rice. It is more like Japanese OmuRice with watery scrambled egg pour over egg coated fried rice. Definitely a must for egg lovers. There are more and more offerings for Taiwanese food these days but this one definitely is one of the better ones. Will come back to try their other offerings in their menu.

Golden Egg Fried Rice With Meat Patty Flawless. The meat cake was surprisingly awesome and the rice was the type you get in Taiwanese and Chinese restaurants.

Mentaiko Carbonara Pasta The carbonara aspect was passable. The mentaiko aspect was barely there. You can top up pasta here and I encourage you to.

Thai Style Soft Shell Crab Glass Noodle Salad This deep fried Soft Shell Crab coverage chilled Glass Noodle Salad in Thai style sauce made by the friendly stall owner. Taste as good as it looked. Really appealing to Instagram too.

Steak Fries $14. Marinated with red wine. Sauce is peppery. It’s a good combi.

Grilled White Fish with Oriental Tomato Sauce Hidden in one of the coffee shop along Toa Payoh North, this stall sell decent western foods in hawker price. Their grilled white fish was tender, soft and juicy. The tomato sauce doesn’t overwhelming the taste of the grilled fish. $7

Menchi Katsu Curry If you frequently visit Killiney Road, you should very familiar with this ramen restaurant. Do you know they have been operating here since 2012? So this year, they are celebrating their 20th anniversary! Although they started as a ramen restaurant, this outlet actually served more items than their regular ramens. So you could find some other interesting Japanese foods like this one. The menchi katsu curry is their specially prepared minced pork cutlet served with homemade curry. The minced pork cutlet was soft inside with crunchy skin. The curry was delicious and not too spicy. Do add some egg to complete your meal.

Chicken Soup Base Ramen This is one of my go to favourite ramen store in Singapore! I love the spicy ramen ($14) because it’s so tasty and I like how thin the noodle is. The soup doesn’t look like it’s going to be spicy but wow, it really packs a punch. It can be quite spicy for those who can’t take chilli. The seaweed is also different but this is why it’s unique. You can also order a lemon to twist things up a bit. The change of flavours from the lemon refresh my palate. Adding in the fried garlic also changes the flavour. With one bowl of ramen and so many tasty flavours, isn’t that great!! Overall this bowl of ramen comforts me on a rainy day.

Crepe Pasta? This is an interesting find. Tastes great initially, but can get sick of it quite quickly. Maybe the sauce too cheesy? Still, it's a good place for a good variety of pasta in the neighbourhood.

Vongole Pasta Clams in white sauce. ($7) Slightly garlic taste, yummy pasta. Highly recommended!

Gnocchi Di Patate For a hawker stall, the potato pasta was good enough. Came with mushrooms and asparagus, which I must mention are really fresh and of good quality. Base was the fusion tomato cream, which is the furthest a tomato hater like me would go.

Prawn Noodles | $6.90 3 noodle options Store was only opened for 4 days at time of visit, store aunties were quite friendly. Situated at the front-facing edge of timbre+ The yellow noodles was slightly sticking together and fragmented (mildly lumpy) but the chilli and pork rinds oil made the dish much more palatable. The broth was very flavourful and salty without the noodles but rich in prawny goodness.

J pork upsize 7nett, add on korean Ckn +1.2nett, add on laksa Ckn +1.2nett Average. The rice is abit too generous, the pork was serviceable but theres a Liver taste to it, on top of the sweet sauce. Korean Ckn was almost tasteless and the laksa Ckn marinade was weak too, but made better with the accompanying sambal Overall it's not really worth a try but the protein is reasonable value for money

Paneer biryani (mr biryani) Quite mild paneer gravy tbh, but otherwise it's their usual good execution
