DSTLLRY is definitely not what you would consider a traditional Japanese restaurant, but don't underestimate the quality of their food. In particular, their lunchtime dons (rice bowls) seem to be irresistible. The chunks of plump and fresh salmon, maguro and hamachi are tossed in a special mix of mirin, dashi and soy sauce, making their Barachirashi Don ($16.90), quite simply, to-die-for. What's unique is that you can opt not only for a salad instead of rice for your Barachirashi, but also a Barachirashi Spicy Ramen, if you're not a chirashi purist, that is. The only catch? This dark, sexy bar and art gallery is kinda hidden in the depths of Portsdown, so please keep this chirashi in mind should you be in the area during lunch!

Decently priced (sgd 26.90) and really yummy Ribeye steak with pretty generous serving of truffle shavings! The Ribeye steak is tender and not too oily. YUMZ!

Nom nom nom! We took the 80 bucks set and wow! We were totally well-fed and entertained by chef Teppei! Yummy Sushi, fresh sashimi and carefully torched beef! Wow! It's so so so worth our money! :)

Great salads!! My awesome salad cost 10bucks and has a generous serving of half an avocado, smoke salmon, chicken breast and tuna! Served with balsamic vinegar. Wow.
As for the sandwich, it's alot more dull in comparison. 16bucks for (ok, delicious ) bread with generous amount of vege and meat. But that's about it.
What really really touched my heart was the human touch. There was this old uncle who came in and asked for a cup of kopi-o. He prob came to this place to reminisce the old times since this cafe was transformed from an old Chinese medical hall. The servers told the uncle that the coffee cost 5 bucks. However, the manager got the uncle a long black and said 'charge him only 1 dollar.' And got the waiter to serve him sugar. WOW WOW. Well done guys! Keep up the good job. :) you guys really touched my heart. That's the true kampong spirit.
