Looking for an aesthetic cafe located at the trendy Tiong Bahru district? Plain Vanilla might just be what you are looking for!
Earthy tones with bright natural lighting creates a cosy ambience for you to enjoy a nice selection of drinks, savoury mains and delicious pastries.
During my visit to the cafe, there were only seats available at the Alfresco dining section. However, the fans did the job in making the tropical Singapore heat bearable.
The waiting time for the dishes ranged from 15-30 minutes and I took the opportunity to browse the items displayed at the retail store of the Alfresco dining section while waiting for the food to be served. The staff who attended to my family and I were attentive and polite, which helped to elevate our experience in this cosy cafe.
🍝 Chicken Pesto Orecchiette | S$24 | 3/5 ⭐️
- Sun-dried tomato paste and basil pesto made the dish savoury but the tough chicken breast brought the rating of this dish down to 3/5.
🍞 Mixed Berries French Toast | S$18 | 3/5 ⭐️
- Assortment of fruits served with the French toast were fresh but there’s nothing extraordinary about the dish.
🍳 Eggs Benedict | S$22 | 4/5 ⭐️
- Poached egg was done to perfection, prosciutto was of good quality. The different elements of this dish came together nicely and made it the best main dish we tried.
🧁 Strawberry White Choc Cupcake | S$4.20 | 4/5 ⭐️
- The sweet white chocolate frosting, slightly dense yet moist vanilla cake and fresh strawberry was a killer combination.
🧁 Cookies & Cream Cupcake | S$4.20 | 2/5 ⭐️
- Cookies & Cream frosting was alright but the chocolate cookie cake was slightly dry and plain.
☕️ Flat White | S$5 | 4/5 ⭐️
- As I prefer my coffee to be milky and slightly sweet, this flat white definitely hit the spot!
Will I return? - Yes! I look forward to bringing my friends to Plain Vanilla to try more flavours of cupcakes, tarts and other pastries accompanied with great coffee! 🤩
I tried the sirloin steak which was $36 and requested for it to be medium rare. The sirloin steak doneness was ideal, the gradient from red till pink was such a pleasant sight to see and the steak was so juicy and flavourful. Hence, the beef was easy to cut and tasted wonderful.
The sirloin steak comes with 2 sides that you can choose from, however you can pay an extra $8 for an additional side. I chose the garlic mash potato and truffle fries. The garlic mash potato was great, the garlic was not overpowering and the mash potato was creamy and delicious. The truffle fries on the other hand was just fine, I couldn't really taste the truffle in the fries. The fries' cut was bigger as compared to regular fries and was served hot and crispy, which was great.
Overall the food was pretty good, I'll rate my experience a 8/10. The ambience and environment was great, it was peaceful, filled with natural lighting and the soft music in the background was made the atmosphere light and uplifting. The service provided was excellent as the servers were attentive and friendly. However, I must comment on the location of the restaurant, it was hard to get to the restaurant as i would have to take bus number 2 from Resorts World Sentosa and alight at the Amara Sanctuary stop, walk further down to the hotel and I would have to climb a flight of stairs pass the hotel lobby to get to the restaurant, I was thinking of how inconvenient it would be for the elderly.
