Dropped by on a Thursday night with three of my friends. We had the (1) Minotaur burger (2) District 9 pasta (3) crommyonian sow pasta (4) peppa pig pork chop.

Pork chop was (according to my friend) really distinct, the sauce gave a very good balance to the pork flavour. Sweet potato fries were a plus point!

Would describe the District 9 pasta as… a unique combination between a chicken curry noodle… and a laksa sort of coconut-filled broth… with squid ink spaghetti and HUGE prawns. (Prawns really not kidding.)

I personally had the Minotaur burger - huge serving, bound to be full! I found the kicap manis sauce wasn’t too strong, and didn’t add too much additional flavour to the burger. Fries were done well!

Definitely will be returning to try their 辣辣 pasta and would wanna try the pork chop for myself. Service staff was friendly, easy to make a reservation, and vibes are good for a chill place to have a date or just drink with friends. (Plus point: my friend had a Guinness and it was topped off with… latte art?? Hahaha)

Paid a total of $61.20 for my four mains + one Guinness. Definitely worth to return to bistro, and flavours are good too! Would recommend.

Absolute horrific experiences! (Yes, plural, because I've been to Assembly Ground TWICE.)

First time I went there with my girlfriend, ordered the prawn pasta, which was great in taste! BUT food service was so slow, and it took them almost 20 to 30 minutes to serve the food. WORSE STILL. We only got served our appetisers (chicken poppers) AFTER we had finished our mains. Even the waitress serving our table was absolutely embarrassed. I mean seriously, who waits 20 minutes without appetisers, and then proceeds to serve it after mains? But food was good, so we decided to let it go and try it one more time.

AND WE REGRETTED. Second time (today) that I went with my girlfriend and our university friends. It was actually my friend's birthday and she loved pasta, so we decided to give Assembly Ground another try. On a positive note, yes, they finally learnt to serve appetisers (truffle fries, which yes, was filling and large in quantity), BUT WOW we got served our first pasta 30 MINUTES after our order... as usual we wouldn't start until everyone's food arrived... BUT EVEN AFTER 50 MINUTES after our order we were still waiting for ONE MORE PASTA. WORSE STILL: it was my birthday friend's pasta. Come on, gosh. We kept asking the staff where our mains were, and all they could say were the same old excuses: "Sorry, we'll rush your order, it should becoming soon."

Now I work in the services industry, so I know sometimes it ain't the service staff's fault. (Don't blame the person who serves the food, blame the person who cooks the food.) So come on Assembly Ground, the table beside us, who ordered like maybe 15 minutes after us, were literally served ALL THREE BURGERS BEFORE US. That's absolute horrific, how could you afford to let three people wait for one dish that's gone missing? And worse still, how on earth can you justify waiting 50 minutes for pasta? Jesus. Doesn't help that it was the birthday girl and I was the one who suggested eating here. You not only made her fun-gry, you embarrased me because I brought them here.

Absolutely disgraceful. Your chefs need to "wake up their idea". If I could rate 0 I would, because I've been absolutely embarrased by you guys, but I can't, so 1 star it is for you.

Good food doesn't mean you get away with absolutely disgusting food service standards. And yes, the waiter acknowledged it was my friend's birthday but only apologised. You guys should do better, at least serve her a coffee or something. MAKE IT UP TO HER. Jesus.

Friends and I had a few different combinations. Personally liked the mentaiko, it was something unique and expertly done to not make the sauce too jelat. We also LOVED the lamb merguez, the sausage parts were absolutely delicious 🤩 friend commented that the vodka flavour wasn’t too noticeable in the “pasta alla vodka”, but I think we all know the real winners 🤪

Highly recommend trying the lamb merguez and mentaiko! With Burpple it’s really worth it and I can understand why there’s such a demand for the place. Queue was definitely starting to show after 7pm. The restaurant isn’t huge either, so it’s best to make a reservation in advance. Had a chat with the lady boss (Michelle) and she was really nice with taking our orders and serving us.

Appreciated the effort made by the team! Keep up the good work. Will definitely be back. Friend also mentions: “Probably better than Tipo.”

Taste: 9/10 (new favourite pasta place due to interesting flavours)
Location: 7/10 (close to Bencoolen MRT and a walk away to Bugis MRT, though fortune centre is a kinda not so common mall I guess)
Value with Burpple: 8/10

Girlfriend had the Tom Yum Pasta, really true to the name, we both loved the dish! Tom yum flavour was strong without being overly spicy, and the seafood accompanying it was just right 👍🏻

Had the BBQ ribs for myself. Super tender and falling off the bones. The marinade was done just right and I appreciated the slightly roasted flavour of the cauliflower from the salad side.

Using Burpple 1 for 1, we paid $21 (prices shown on menu are already NETT) for the ribs and the pasta, and had the double espresso for another $5.50.

Location of the cafe was a bit ulu, but it’s a nice find especially if you’d just finished hiking around the southern ridges and wanna walk back to Habourfront MRT. The seating isn’t plentiful, so suggest you make a reservation if possible, or be ready to wait because plenty of hikers seem to drop by.

Would definitely revisit the place and order the tom yum pasta for myself if we’re around the area!

Location: 4/10
Value with Burpple: 10/10
Good vibes: 8/10 😎

Had the milo and the chrysanthemum honey flavours! Loved them. 2 cups of single scoop for $5 (one for one using Burpple) makes this deal absolutely worth it. The chrysanthemum especially reminds me a lot of the one from Birds of Paradise, just as good in my opinion! Second time back here and I’m still loving it 👍🏻

Liked the beef burger! Patty was thick and inside was cooked a little medium rare (not sure if it was intended, but the inside was a little pink). Breakfast set was alright, nothing fantastic. Wasn’t very filling and drinks were quite pricy. Ambiance was ok and for a place in the neighbourhood I guess I could visit it if my friends were coming to Tampines. Probably wouldn’t return if there wasn’t Burpple 1 for 1.

Salmon carbonara really had a great salmon base as the sauce! Portion is huge too. Definitely recommended. Plate full of snappers may get a bit oily / jelak after a while. Paid only $11.55 per person after using Burpple 1 for 1 omg can see why this place is so hot! Will return 🤩

Had the mango and cookies monster (small) for $4.90. Girlfriend really liked the mango! The cookies monster was interesting cause it had a side of red beans and the sprinkle of seaweed flavour made the shaved ice really flavourful. (May be an acquired taste if you are not a fan of the slightly salty flavour.) Overall liked the shaved ice, thought it was very well worth $4.90. Oh, and the lady who served us was very nice

Verdict: Awesome!

Lychee flavour was very refreshing. Recommend you pair that with a rather jelat flavour like Granny’s Favourite. For the price point and the taste, I would highly recommend and would return, especially with Burpple!

Ramen was awesome! Loved the soup base. Girlfriend got the clear soup base whilst I got the black garlic soup base. Both were nice. For a set meal for ~$8 per pax, this is a really good deal, especially considering it’s in Plaza Sing. Would recommend and would come back again using Burpple!

Price was really reasonable cause we came on a Friday dinner. The staff here were really nice and the uncles and aunties were pleasant. Thumbs up for them.

The food was okay... nothing fantastic. We were quite surprised to see slices of salmon being offered but that ran out really quickly and was replaced by pepperoni slices instead. Prawns were small sized, they were ok. Soup for the hotpot was really flavourful. Meat was well marinated, for example the black pepper pork belly slices did the trick for me.

Overall was a very greasy experience (it is mookata la after all) and you can make it a better experience by buying a lime juice tower from the drinks store aunty at $6.90 (that’s 1.5L! Really worth, and you can share around with your friends throughout the meal). Didn’t eat too much cause it takes time to cook and there’s not much cooking space on a mookata for 90 minutes. Don’t come here expecting to eat a lot, but it’s fine for a cheap buffet-mookata experience. Will only come back with Burpple.

Used the 2 for $25 deal with Burpple and got the wagyu beef don. The presentation was on point and an absolute feast for my lady friend to enjoy taking pictures for IG. Overall wise delicious, but it’s a small bowl and you’d probably not be full on this meal. Pricy overall but for the taste... think it’s alright.
