In a very small quaint spot in Kumagaya town lies this traditional Unagi place. No English menu, nobody in the restaurant could speak a single word of English either. Relied on Google translate and lots of pointing to get what I wanted to eat!
Huge portion. I had 4 bowls of rice and still a lot was left uneaten.
Initially thought those were meat balls but they turned out to be yam. Very well done and not too tough but also not overcooked that it turns all mushy. Radish and carrots had such a natural sweetness. The sweetest red carrot that I’ve ever had.
Assortment of Japanese good stuff - smoked duck, Japanese seaweed with a very smooth sesame peanut sauce, good tamago, and mackerel grilled till super fragrant. Not forgetting the small piece of fried tofu with a dollop of sweet sauce - what a delight.
Love Japanese bentos! This was taken in between meetings in Kobe. Came across the very same shop in Tokyo some days later and this bento was selling at ¥900 (¥972 with tax).
