My friends and I recently enjoyed a meal at the Wine Cove in one of their private dining spaces with a wide variety of food and some interesting wine pairings.

We started off with a dry Manzanilla to accompany a spread of appetizers. I enjoyed the Tuna Mini Cone and Jamon Bikini in particular, although we also tried the Trio of Dip, the Para Picar and the Roasted Romanesco.

My favourite wine of the evening was the Verdejo, a fruity light-bodied white wine that was very easy to drink. It paired excellently with the Clams a la Marinera and Barbeque Skate.

We finished off with a PX Sherry, which was a little too sweet for me personally, but was smooth, syrupy and helped to enhance the savoury, caramel flavour of the Burnt Cheese Cake that we had for dessert.

Overall, the Wine Cove provides a highly satisfying dining experience with excellent food, drink and service. I look forward my next visit.

The Gyu Co is a conveniently located donburi restaurant specialising in affordable beef bowls. I ordered the Classic Gyudon with Double Meat, and Double Cabbage and Onions, which turned out to be a very hearty portion of tender, smoky beef and juicy caramalised onions. Looking forward to trying the other dishes when on my next visit.

Grilled shitake mushrooms, meatballs, teriyaki chicken and more! Cooked perfectly with great smoky flavour.

Freshly baked, lots of cheese. Blue cheese flavour wasn't too overwhelming.

Thick and creamy but not too rich, with a generous portion of savoury bacon. Very satisfying.

A chef's special, this bisque was rich in flavour and mildly spicy.

Low marbling but very flavourful. Easy to chew, smoky flavour, savoury and my new favourite cut of steak.

Shiitake and Button Mushrooms. Rich and meaty flavour.
