BBQ Pork Ribs ($14.90) @ By The Fire A true bargain. Never have I had anything cheaper and and better for this price range. It was well flavoured and seasoned. The sides were great complements as they at least made me feel less sinful for whooping down the delicious portion of Mac 'n' cheese with bacon flakes. 😚 : Rating: 4/5 Worth your calories? Yes! For Tasty Grills in a Kopitiam Not one to pull out all the stops for Valentine’s Day? If your idea of the perfect date involves unpretentious, good food and flip flops, By the Fire is just the place to be — bring your spouse or make it a boys’ night out. Located within Alibabar the Hawker Bar, opposite I12 Katong, this hawker stall turns out hearty grills and smart pastas, as well as moreish deep-fried bites like battered baby squid ($9.90) and the very popular Scotch Egg ($6.90). The golden breaded exterior reveals tender pork mince and a perfectly half-boiled egg, and it is served with a tart cabbage slaw to cut through the richness. For mains, you won’t go wrong with the BBQ Pork Ribs ($14.90), slathered in homemade barbecue sauce and served with macaroni and cheese, or the tender Grilled Pork Cheek ($15.90), interestingly glazed with Japanese curry oil. There’s no need for dessert here, not when you can share an order of their signature Keystone’s Seaweed Pasta ($8.90). MEATliquor Finally had a chance to try this place after yoga class :).. But it was disappointing and does not live up to the hype surrounding it.. For Classic Burgers Super juicy and substantial for the price. 2 "mustard-fried" beef patties in between a fluffy brioche bun, with a side of fries for $15 nett during lunch time. It's like an upgraded version of a big mac, thats juicier and tastier (isn't a bad thing tbh). For those who grew up eating McDonald's burgers, the flavour profile of this burger would definitely appeal to you.

Shin-Osaka Healthier lunch option. Yuzu-honey roast chicken, broccoli, mushrooms, corn tomatoes, spinach, romaine, butterhead lettuce, with wafu sauce. Picked the soba, which was a little too soggy. For $14.90, I think I very much prefer the soba over at Wheat.

Transit Bowl Love that there are lots of these build-it-yourself salad places in the CBD. Shinkansen has gotta be one of my favourites for the freshness and generosity of their ingredients – yes, you can get full on a salad! The Transit bowl gives you 1 base (mixed lettuce, spinach and cherry tomatoes with the options of soba or mixed grain sushi), 1 protein, 3 toppings and 1 sauce. Mine here is customised with buckwheat soba, salmon sashimi, an onsen egg, toasted cashews and sliced almonds, momotaro tomatoes and yuzu mayo. Healthy food that tastes good. Yay!

Crispy Skin Salmon $17 Loveeee this. Returned to this cafe cose of this dish. Enough cream base soup with salmon and the salmon skin remain crispy!! They had baby potatoes too

The Carnivore $28 I took all meat platter which comes with chicken and lamb slices. Black pepper sauce was nice for this. Pricey but good. Dono if it’s worth it but it was nice haha it comes along with boiled broccoli, bacon, fries and sunny side up egg.

A Wacky Creation That Actually Works Pork.Bone.Tea - chargrilled pork ribs, crazily heady tea-smoked bone marrow, garlic & pepper jus, and roasted garlic. It sounds crazy but it's true. This is the bak kut teh that all fans have dreamed about.

Not Just A CNY Snack The pièce de résistance - Bak Kwa Mac & Cheese. It's essentially penne baked with gruyere & cheddar, truffle oil and pork belly bak kwa. Smoky and full of cheesy goodness, this is irrésistible.

Sweet Celadon Pandan lava cake, gula melaka soil, valrhona white chocolate clay, hojicha ice cream

Taco bout a fun time! Been to their sister outlet, Chico Loco at Telok Ayer, many times and was feeling like some Mexican so we decided to pop by and try the outlet at Robertson Quay! Started off with the Roasted Cauliflower ($9) and can I just say that the cauliflower was so nutty and delicious - truly my fave when it's cooked well like this! The cashew crema and Taji spice also lent it a sourish heat that paired so nicely. Also had the Braised Black Beans ($8) as my friend wanted to try but I can't comment much about it as beans aren't exactly my first choice of fillings at Guzman/Stuff'd. The Crispy Potatoes ($10) were served well-crisped and piping hot, just perfect! For some greens, we chose the Loco Salad with Grilled Chicken ($16 + $5) which was satisfying but I wish they gave more of the veges for this price. We loved the Baja Fish Tacos ($11/pc) - although not the price - with a winning combi of thick and crisp barramundi fillet together with chilli mango salsa and cabbage. Lastly, we got the Chicken Quesadilla ($18) but this was quite lacklustre in terms of flavours and portion. Missed the happy hour but we still got the Prickly Pear Frozen Margarita ($19/glass) and the Watermelon basil Cooler ($9) - pretty overpriced and I was disappointed that the margarita did not come with salt! Overall, a pretty vibey place for good food, good mood, and good booze, although be prepared to pay a pretty penny! In total, the four of us paid about $140 for the meal.

Classic Huevos Rancheros (V) $19 They do a mean Huevos Rancheros at @superlocorqmenu. It's packed with bright, punchy flavours and will satisfy without making you sluggish post-meal. They say you eat with your eyes first, and the purple pickled onion, green guacamole, red salsa roja, and the white and yellow of the sunny side up free-range eggs were a riot of colours that certainly piqued our appetite.

Super Brekkie Burrito $19 The superlative Super Brekkie Burrito comes crammed with pork chorizo, free-range scrambled eggs, sweet corn, quinoa, refried black beans, pickled onion, hash brown, cheese, chipotle mayo, jalapeño, and guacamole. Amazingly savoury, this beast will sate even the largest of appetites.

Paella (1 serving: S$28, 2 servings: S$39) I suggested to Cat that we try J's for dinner as part of our Entertainer app adventures. The warm fluffy saffron rice dish with marinated chicken, tilapia and salmon is perfectly moist and aromatic. The chicken was amazingly tender and the chunks of salmon was so so fresh! We'd love to go back again for the delicious paella that wins in terms of fuss-free eating and taste.

Churros with Banana & Mango Churros layered with salted caramel bananas, fresh mangoes & coconut infused. It was a bit too creamy for me! ($12)

Lamb Tostadas Crispy corn tortillas with slow cooked leg of lamb served with spicy pick de gallo. Authentic taste! ($18)

$3/pax for tap water?! They're having a promo for their 10th anniversary, with select dishes and drinks going for just $10 - yes just $10, which is almost half-priced for some items! Place was moody and vibey, great for a post-work gathering or even an evening date. We started off with the Tokyo Hummus ($12), which was made with edamame giving it a unique flavour different from the traditional chickpea. Topped with a layer of furikake and served with mini toasted bread slices, this was a great appetiser to start off the meal. Next were two $10 items we chose - the Unagi & Foie Gras Donabe and the Pork Aparagus Kushiyaki (2pcs). $10 for unagi and foie gras is really such a steal, an the dish did not disappoint at all. Delicious, with the sweet-savoury teriyaki-esque sauce, my only complaint would be that they could hold back a little with the sauce. On the other hand, the kushiyaki was just alright, and the pork tasted like salty bacon to me. However, I was pretty disappointed by the charge of $3 per pax for water, especially since it was not made known to use at the time of ordering. The waitress asked if we wanted still or sparkling water, and we replied that we just wanted tap water to which she just said "ok" and did not inform upfront of the charge. I did not know until I saw the bill! And when I mentioned this to the staff, he just said something to the tune of "yes it's like that". No apologies, no clarifications, quite disappointing and ended off the meal on a poor note.

‘Boshi-Maker Along with their brunch menu, there was this cocktail called ‘Boshi-Maker (S$20.00). This gin-based beverage also comprised ingredients such as Umeboshi (salted Japanese plums), blueberry, lemon and Hitachino White Ale, so the drink came across as refreshing, fruity and a wonderful start to a good meal.

Restaurant Hopping -- Portugese Cuisine The cod fish was salty and firm, nothing like what we usually have here. It was a new dining experience for me but I will not try it again, especially with this price tag of $38++ 😮. It goes the same for the other 2 main courses, prices were too steep. I like their authentic Portugese egg tarts (according to the boss) though, really delish!

Portuguese Prawn Porridge This stewed bread porridge had a wee bit of bite to it, while ensuring that all of the prawn broth was melded together with the carbs and spices. The prawns were well-cooked and the dish was well-seasoned. The portion was quite large and very filling, while the flavour from the prawn stock gave the dish a definite richness. A definite must-order when here!

Bacalhua (codfish) This codfish dish, or also known as, Bacalhau, is quite sinfully delightful. Saltier than usual, at the request of my Brazilian Friend, he declared that this is the proper way of having this dish, salty, firm and utterly flaky, it's almost cured but not quite there. Hidden beneath are the baby spinach and baby potatoes, sautéed to perfection and matching well.

Giving up their corporate jobs to go into F&B, the two army buddies from Old Bibik serves rendang prepared daily from scratch, using a grandmother’s secret recipe, with fresh ingredients and at wallet-friendly prices. They will be taking part in #UltimateHawkerFest2014 for the very first time, so if you love their food, do come down and show your support!

Chicken rendang for lunch at Old Bibik today. They are officially opening at MDIS Building (190 Changi Road) next week after moving out from Lavender Food Square a few months back. These two army buddies prepare rendang daily from scratch, using a grandmother’s secret recipe and guidance from a Peranakan chef, with fresh ingredients and at wallet-friendly prices.
