Best Places for Seafood in Johor Bahru

JB's got a solid rep for fresh seafood at good prices, so it's only right that you squeeze in a meal or two at some of the city's best seafood restaurants. From chilli crabs to steamed fish and salted egg squid, here are 8 spots for a seafood feast.

Crossing the bridge just for a meal at this massive seafood restaurant might sound like a radical idea, but the Burpple community assures it’s worth it. This restaurant is located near a local fish farm, so look forward to produce at its freshest. Crabs (from RM5 per 100g) are a must-order, especially the thick and eggy chilli sauce or spicy black pepper. Don’t stop there! Share some Butter Squid (from RM15), Curry Prawns (from RM10 per 100g) and Steamed Fish (MP) too. Dinner service gets a bit crazy here, so take Burppler’s Dex Neo’s advice and drop by for before 6pm to beat the crowd.

If you’re ever caught in this city on a rainy day, find comfort at this cosy restaurant in Taman Mount Austin for heartwarming Seafood Porridge (from RM90). Served bubbly and piping hot, the seafood porridge is chock-full with prawns, clams, crab and more. Burppler Vanessa Kou enjoyed the super savoury broth, which has a tinge of sweetness thanks to the fresh crustaceans. Pro tip: The portion is mighty generous, so Burppler Veronica Phua suggests to minus one person’s order for this dish so you’ll have tummy space for other great dishes like the Steamed Fish Maw (from RM25) and Fried Fish (a piece, RM2).
