Sunway's Best: Breakfast and Brunch

If there is one thing that's capable of waking us up for class, it's breakfast and brunch! Let us lead you into Bandar Sunway, where students make up the major population, for the best B + B spots that are affordable and equally enjoyable!

With a spacious venue and delicious food to boot, industrial-themed WhupWhup is great for dining in groups. Bring friends or family for a funky brunch in this factory-turned-cafe and laugh over the hilariously written menu — the Beef Bourgoignon with Mash contains veggies 'cos Mama said so. Then, order the Duck 3 Ways (RM28) for a duck bacon pasta with salty duck confit that hit it off perfectly with their sweet rendition of a salted egg yolk sauce made of duck eggs, hence the name of the dish. The cafe also makes a mean salmon — choose from the appetising Mohawk Salmon with Pineapple Salsa and Mash (RM28) or the Salmon Dill Open Toast (RM19).

There isn't much that can't be solved with a molten lava cake. On days when you need an oozesome pick-me-up, bring a friend here to share the treat (and guilt)! Each cake is popped into the oven upon order and the resulting molten lava perfection is served next to a generous scoop of ice cream. Don't pass off the signature Salted Egg Yolk Molten Cake (RM16) as just another wannabe 'liu sha pao' — this golden hunk is paired with honey cereal and curry leaves, both of which add wonderful dimensions to the dessert. In case one isn't enough to share, the joint also offers a molten lava cake duo with tea for two (RM40). Avg Price: RM25

Known for the best pork noodles in Sunway, Ah Or does justice to its fame with every piping hot bowl it serves. From RM8.50, the Pork Noodles taste like heaven on rainy days but even when it's sweltering hot, the restaurant is packed to the brim with pork-hungry patrons — us included. The broth, fragrant with pork bones, is topped off with your choice of noodles, minced pork, offal and crunchy pork lard to complete the satiating dish. If you're feeling generous, splurge on the Special Pork Noodles (RM13.50). It is a lavish option to have your noodles with more of everything!

A mish-mash between That Latte Place's brunches and their own porky creations, Tulip's menu has plenty to fuel early shoppers through their spree. Roll your sleeves up for the Mexican Chorizo Wrap (RM21.90). It strikes a balance with refreshing salsa and full-flavoured chorizo sausages, all held together within a soft tortilla wrap. If you've brought along the boyfriend to hold the bags, reward the good lad with a Signature Crunchy Pork-chetta (RM27.90) — skin-on pork belly that crackles with the sound of smoky satisfaction.

After that energy-draining morning class, recharge over Melbourne-inspired brunches with your classmates at Garage 51. Dunk warm bread into gooey cheese with their Baked Sausage with Mozzarella & Sourdough (RM16) — this comforting dish will surely nurse you back into first-class condition. While the extravagant Messed Up Family milkshakes may tempt the sugarholic in you, resist this certain path to a food coma. Instead, have the lighter Mochatella (RM16) — a drink of coffee cubes with milk and nutella that is just as satisfying, if not more. Feel free to linger here a little longer with the friends. After all, the campus is just steps away!

Come to Lancelot Tea Guild for its diverse tea list, but stay for the flavoured scones. Here's a spot to impress the girlfriend or to bring mum for morning tea! It is a safe choice to order a pot of Earl Grey (RM12.90) but if you're an adventurous tea-drinker, don't hesitate to ask the helpful waiter for recommendations! Scones (RM8.40) are a must-have, with appealing flavours like aromatic Lavender and Chocolate Mint on offer. Instead of cream, Lancelot serves their scones with enchanting tea-flavoured ice cream. We recommend the absolutely aromatic Cherry Blossom to go with your crumbly classic scones!

A stone's throw away from Sunway University is this cafe where you can snap up affordable lunch grub. With nothing too far off the RM20 range, don't be surprised to see hordes of students at its doors. Most are here for their Basic Pastas — think vegetarian carbonara linguine and aglio olio with mushrooms — priced at only RM6.90. When you're scrimping to save your allowance, this is a super simple yet tasty meal you can very much afford! If you prefer your lunch plate with a little more pizzazz, get the Chicken Pepperoni Tomato Cream Linguine (RM13.90) that sees plenty pepperoni tossed into creamy pasta.

For students who frequent the industrial area across Sunway University, Espression8 is a close-by sanctum to enjoy quiet mornings alone with a cup of coffee. Bring a book, or an unfinished college assignment, to set up camp here with a cup of their bestseller S'mocha (RM11) — a soothing hot mocha sprinkled with mini marshmallows. If the morning hunger pangs hit, the cafe also has a selection of simple yet hearty pastas and breakfast dishes at super affordable prices — try the creamy Tagliatelle Spinach Chicken Pasta (RM12.90).

Swing by with a friend at lunch for great food and entertainment.
