A great steak is made up of a good cut of meat, seasonings that compliment the natural flavor of the cut and proper temperature control to ensure it remains juicy and tender. So read on to find out where exactly can you get a good steak in Johor.
For Wagyu
Wagyu literally means "Japanese Beef", Kobe beef, Matsusaka Ushi and Ohmi are all types of Wagyu from the Kansai region of Japan (which is synonymous with the best beef in the world). Me'nate here has A5 Wagyu, which is the highest possible grade that Wagyu can obtain. That being said they have either striploin or ribeye (RM196 per gm each), both equally good cuts, but if you want a strong beefy tasting steak, get the striploin. For the bravest of meat eaters, order the Striploin rare, as you will be able to enjoy the pure unadulterated taste of the meat, but for those looking to have a normal steak, do not go higher than medium rare. Me'nate also has US corn fed Angus beef which also come in striploin (RM59) and ribeye (RM64), an added extra is BBQ ribs (RM25) which fall off the bone the minute they enter your mouth.
For Strip Steak
The strip steak is a cut from the short loin of a cow (the top portion of a sirloin), which unlike the marbling of Wagyu, has a distinctive single line of fat that runs across the top part of the cut. Tony Roma's has a 280gm New York strip steak (RM63.49) which like all loin steaks is lean, juicy and moderately tender without breaking the bank. Their steaks are served with two sides which you can pick from their menu, which are; roasted vegetables, broccoli, mashed potatoes, french-fries, corn on the cob, coleslaw or rice. Besides this they also serve many other western delicacies such as lamb racks (RM63.49), shrimp scampi pasta (RM41.23) and deep fried shrimp (RM30.63).
For Ribeye With Tasty Gravy
Usually when it concerns steak, it's all about how great the cut of meat is, but sometimes you would like something extra, and at George and Dragon, they have exactly that, sides and gravy to compliment any steak. Order their premium rib-eye (RM90) and you'll get a side of sautéed sugar snap peas, carrots, broccoli, and potatoes, as well as a healthy serving of gravy. The gravy comes in either mushroom or black pepper, go with the mushroom for a savory earthy taste that mellows out but doesn't overpower the umami of the meat, giving the meal a balanced and satisfying feel. You can order the steak in your choice of doneness, but as usual we would recommend medium rare. A bonus point is that the theme of the restaurant is that of the medieval English era, with full armor sets on display and insignia laden shields on the walls, oh yes not to forget, they also have a pub.
