Strongly flavourful and umami despite the clear soup. However a little peppery

Fish is fresh and the price is reasonable

Comfort dish and eat with porridge is the best

Zai Shun Curry Fish Head is Michelin Guide Restaurant for their curry fish head. I had their curry fish head for takeaway before, and it was nothing fantastic.

But what they are truly famous for, and what u can see being eaten at almost every table, is their HK style steamed fish.

Theres already a long queue forming way before lunch time, at around 11am. Once our turn was reached, we were brought to the side to choose the fish that we wanted to eat and what style we wanted to cook it in.

Their HK style sauce that we chosen was flawless, and as usual, the fish was damn fresh, with a tofu like texture that just breaks apart so easily.

This dish is a must have here at Zai Shun.

When I ordered this, I had no idea what I was in for. I saw it on the menu and I just ordered Coz it looked good.

The sauce was like a type of bean paste, with lots of park lard and spring onions. Tasted very old school, like something my parents will surely like.

The fishes used here are damn fresh for sure. It's like eating fish that has tofu texture. damn fresh.

This is by far the best braised Dong Po Rou I ever had.

The braised sauce tastes excellent. Flavourful, thick and tasted so decadent.

What's even more decadent than the sauce, is the fatty meat, meat was so tender and damn high fat ratio.

So sinful and yet so damn good.

A must order when u come to Zai Shun.

Another reason to visit Zai Shun, are their wide selection of awesome side dishes.

Har Cheong Gai(Prawn Paste Chicken) was fried to a crisp.

Hae Bi Hiam was also good, so good that I ordered 2 container boxes for takeaway.

Bitter Gout eggs were good too, my in laws absolutely loved this.

This place is famous for its long queues and delicious steamed fish. Did not disappoint! We loved everything we had including the bitter gourd egg and fishcake. 🤌💕

💰 $79 incl 2 bowls of rice and worth every cent

It was very crowded, and majority of the dishes almost finish.
So I ordered whole steamed fish for two of us, and uncle seller said pair with bitter gourd egg.
The fish was very fresh, fleshy, and not fishy smell. The sauce complimented the fish, not too salty.
The bitter gourd is not bitter, cooked with egg. This is one of the place that I can enjoy bitter gourd.
We finished everything 😝.
💰$68.

Not much taste and it's got too much bite. My mom likes this tho

The herbal flavour was not overly herbal so it's pretty good, even the sweetness is quite subdued. But a tad dry

This steamed fish head received a nod of approval from my fussy mum for its notably fresh and tender, fleshy meat.

And the best way to enjoy it — in light, fermented bean paste sauce with minced garlic and topped with lard crisp! 🫶🏻

Feelin’ adventurous and ordered this bright green chopped bitter gourd with lemon 🍋 juice drink to detoxify following bouts of puking after consuming some juicy fresh strawberries 🍓 that persisted for days.

This weird concoction clearly left a lasting impact on me with its unique bitter + zesty taste.

My family is always in the mood for Teochew porridge. Despite the fact that the dishes we ordered ain’t traditional Teochew style, the taste of their staple dishes is still something comforting that keep us coming back for more.

❤️ their high fat content — ‘dong puo rou’ [a.k.a. braised pork belly] that consist of wobbly skin with a layer of melt-in-your mouth fat beneath and thick chunks of lean meat braised in this incredibly flavourful soy sauce-based gravy.

Their crunchy prawn roll fried to golden brown and generously stuffed with finely minced meat, prawn and water chestnuts is another hit with us! ⭐️

Finally, I would very much like to enjoy the other dish — bitter gourd fried with egg and salted egg white. However, the gourd proves to be too bitter for my liking. 🤢

Our favourite cold weather food — hearty and comforting dishes alongside with a bowl of steaming Teochew porridge and rice.

Love the doneness of their steamed fishes, always on point!

For 4 pax brunch, we ordered soon hock tail in 豆瓣酱 猪油渣 (bean paste sauce with pork lard) and a grouper Hong Kong style.

The braised pork trotters were flavourful and tender, the meat and fats literally melts in your mouth.

There are also other dishes available from the display and also from their menu.

Prepare to queue for both seats and ordering of food but definitely worthwhile! Prices are reasonable too.

The takeaway portion is 8nett whereas the dine in version is one plate for 4nett.

Theirs is really unique cos it's umami packed but not too strongly seasoned so that you can keep eating, and the sweetness makes it go well with a huge plethora of mild foods, including their milder stir fried dishes

A rare veggie and executed well here
