Yam puree is very smooth & tastes light; sat on top of the creamy rich coconut panna cotta with thin layer of chewy mochi; there's also thick layer of coconut flesh within the coconut husk; love how well both lightly tasted ingredients complement each other; refreshing yet not overly sweet dessert; good for sharing..

Real durian puree is smooth, fragrant & light bitter; panna cotta is very smooth, fragrant & rich with coconut tastes; with a thin layer of chewy mochi; there's also thick layer of coconut flesh within the coconut husk; love how the durian tastes doesn't overpower the surprisingly light tasting panna cotta; refreshing dish yet not overly sweet; good for sharing..

Came across the social media pages of the new Yevolution which had just recently opened their doors at their Far East Square premises for their soft launch. Situated within the air-conditioned area of the compound, Yevolution is located between Hungry Kebabs and Break & Bread; just right across where one would be able to find Bamboo Bowls as well. Taking up a space that is meant more for a takeaway kiosk, Yevolution does accommodate for dine-in patrons however; the dine-in area is located along the aisles of the mall, similar to that of their neighbours that occupies shop spaces that are almost identical to them. As such, the dine-in furnishings could be said to be more function over form here. Given its namesake, Yevolution focuses pretty much on all things coconut here — their signature offering would be their Coconut Panna Cotta, which is available in different flavours ranging from those featuring tropical fruits such as Durian, to more hipster combinations like the Oreo Wonderland. Other items available during their soft launch phase are mostly beverages — these are segmented into categories like the Coconut Latte series, Tea series, Shake series, Fizzy series, Hydro Series and the Hot Tea series.

Visiting Yevolution for their Coconut Panna Cotta creations, we were pretty intrigued by their Durian Fantastic Coconut Panna Cotta and the Yummy Yami Coconut Panna Cotta whilst skimming through the menu — we found ourselves settling for the Yummy Yami Coconut Panna Cotta eventually however; this is considering it’s friendlier price point at $8.60 as compared to the $13 that was listed for the Durian Fantastic Coconut Panna Cotta. It does seem like a lot of effort has been placed on the aesthetic of the dessert; served in a coconut, the Yummy Yami Coconut Panna Cotta features a layer of yam purée atop a layer of mochi; the Coconut Panna Cotta hiding beneath all that with coconut flesh that can be scraped off using a spoon — the Yevolution branding being etched on the coconut whilst also appearing on the wooden platter that the Coconut Panna Cotta come served on. Digging into the dessert, we felt that the Yummy Yami Coconut Panna Cotta was a crowd pleaser on its own — the smooth and creamy yam purée provided a hint of earthiness that matches with the Coconut Panna Cotta; we were surprised how it wasn’t particularly sweet here, all that whilst the mochi layer seemingly adds quite a bit of chew to the coconut pudding beneath for a contrast of texture. We were initially worried that the mochi layer would turn out a little dense, but it was thinner and stretchier than we thought — pretty much dispelled our worries on whether the dessert could be too heavy for an individual to finish. The Coconut Panna Cotta was refreshing; liked how it retained enough moisture and carried a somewhat neutral flavour without being too heavy on gelatine, which gave it a good texture — all that whilst accompanied with coconut flesh that is fresh, juicy and succulent that provides a good chew yet easy to scrape off from the shell. Overall, a very refreshing dessert to have especially on a sunny day walking around the Telok Ayer / Chinatown neighbourhood.

Having only tried the Yummy Yami Coconut Panna Cotta during our visit to Yevolution, it does feel that Yevolution does have quite a fair bit of personality to the brand — this is probably perhaps due to the unique concept and noteworthy aesthetic that the Coconut Panna Cotta has which pretty much separates the brand from most of the other establishments that seemingly focuses of coconut shakes instead. We liked how they have seemingly married the likes of what one would usually find in a local Chinese desserts stall into one that primarily serves up coconut-based desserts and drinks — a concept that does seem to be relatively fresh to the scene at this current juncture. That being said, it would be interesting to see if they would be able to attract the office workers in the Central Business District during weekday lunch hours for dessert — the majority of which would usually be on the hunt for more substantial cooked food options rather than a dessert option in the area; something which they seem to lack of. Still, Yevolution does seem like an interesting option for some refreshing desserts if in the ‘hood of Telok Ayer / Chinatown.
