We also tried the ๐—›๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—•๐˜‚๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ($11.90). Succulent scallops were served sizzling in a hot plate. Floating in a heavenly wafu sauce, the scallops were superb.

The service rendered by Simon was also impeccable. Polite, articulate, highly knowledgeable in Yayoiโ€™s offerings and extremely attentive to customersโ€™ needs, he made the dining experience an absolute joy.

The ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜‚๐—บ ๐—ญ๐—ฒ๐—ป ($30.90) had five items intricately arranged on a tiered wooden platform. The pork katsu, salt-grilled mackerel, chicken dumplings and salmon sashimi were good, but the captivatingly crispy prawn katsu stood out.

Yayoi, a stalwart of Japanese casual dining, has recently revamped its menu after a decade in Singapore.

The ๐—›๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ ๐—ฌ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ถ ๐—ญ๐—ฒ๐—ป (base price $24.80) came highly recommended. Customise it by choosing the type of meat (we picked the ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ธ, + $4). Grill the protein, resting in miso paste on a magnolia leaf, for 30 seconds per side. The leaf imparted a subtle fragrance to the tender pork, while the magnificent miso paste made it more delectable.

The accompanying tempura prawns, salmon sashimi and salad all tasted great. The ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป (+ $2.90), rice fried in a fish stock, was very fluffy with an intoxicating aroma. The complimentary ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜„๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ provided a sweet ending.

A okay bowl of chicken don, chicken is slightly dry. The wasabi mayo is good but can be more generous in the amount given.

These were the dishes I tried this time round:
-Pork Mix Toji Teishoku ($16.90++ or $14.90++ for ala carte): Half pork cutlet, one breaded pork and sliced pork on a hot plate
-Shogayaki Teishoku ($12.90++ or $10.9++ for ala carte): Stir fry pork belly in ginger sauce

While the Pork Mix Toji Teishoku was similar to the other Toji Teishokus which I have countless times before, I like this pork mix combo as you get both a fried pork cutlet and sliced pork! Best of both world! I like the soupy eggy broth to drench my rice in them!

It was my first time trying the Shogayaki Teishoku! When it got served, I thought it was weird that they gave a side of mayo sauce to go with the ginger sauce pork belly. But oh my, it was the best combination ever and I loved it! I also like that the ginger sauce wasnt tooo gingery, so I could enjoy the dish still!

It was also the first time the service staff came round to explain their signature dishes to us, and I got to know that they pride themselves in the RICE and MISO SOUP! Wow, that is a very bold statement to make, to say that your RICE is good. But omg, the rice is really good! No wonder I find myself being a rice bucket and finishing up my rice everytime I dine here!
