Mee sua tossed in a mixture of black vinegar and chilli accompanied with minced and sliced pork, braised mushroom, meatball then topped with crispy ikan bills and pork lard.
The mee sua is done with a good bite that is neither sticky nor soggy which absorbs the sauce well. I like how generous they are with the minced meat and the braised mushroom was super soft and juicy. I felt the taste of vinegar was a little strong even after requesting less vinegar but the chilli did help to make it better 》$4.50
One of the (many) thing(s) I miss most about working in the CBD is Yan Kee's dry mee sua. I can have it for lunch, dinner and supper and yet not be sick of it. It is the ultimate comfort food for me and tastes even better after a long stressful day at work.
I love slurping up the thin wheat vermicelli. I also love the salty and kick-ass zesty tang of their soy sauce and vinegar based sauce. For me, extra meatballs and ikan bilis are a must because they add adds more flavour and aroma to the dish.
Yan Kee's dry mee sua is probably not going to get a Michelin star any time soon but it definitely qualifies as soul food for the ordinary office workers.
One of our regular lunch spot at Circular Road. Known for their Speciality Mee Sua, each bowl of Bak Chor Mee is generously topped with minced pork, sliced pork, meatball, mushroom and crispy ikan bilis. Strong vinegar taste though it isn’t overpowering, it is one of the comfort food we go for
The vinegar is the most prominent taste, but in a good way. Mee sua was very slightly undercooked, but it was still okay. Not too bad
I stumbled upon this gem of a place after a workout session and I briefly recalled it's the famous noodle house that opens up till late. The mee sua looked seemingly plain but packs a punch of satisfaction. The noodles were smooth and complemented the chilli and vinegar well such that there is always a lingering sour taste to it.
Yan Kee did stand out with its signature Bak Chor Mee Suah which was as flavourful but enjoyed with Mee Suah instead.
We liked that the Mee Suah was cooked just right unlike many others which tend to be soggy and overcooked. It’s also 24/7 less Sunday which will be good news for those in need of a quick and tasty fix anytime around the clock.
