Tumeric Chicken With Blue Pea Rice, Fried Egg, Achar. Very nice flavours

I was so used to being laughed at when asked what was my favourite cafe in KL. Madam Kwan was my perennial favourite and my Malaysian friends would say that’s for tourists like you .

But there’s something sincere about the food at madam Kwan ( they opened in Singapore but didn’t make it ) .

So Glad to find an excellent nasi lemak that hits all the notes like the one from madam Kwan . Fragrant and excellent rice , homemade sambal , tender and slightly spicy and tangy Mesah merak chicken thigh meat ( thankfully no frozen meat smell ), moist egg and fresh peanuts and anchovies .

Was a little disappointed when I first tried their kaya toast set (a little over priced at 5.80), but extremely happy at my new find today.

Skip the toast and cakes and go straight it for the kill !

Excellent excellent nasi lemak .

Designed to be a modern kopitiam selling traditional fare and other dishes with a contemporary twist, you can literally get the best of both worlds at XiXiang Kaya Kopitiam from your Signature Nasi Lemak to the trendy Turmeric Curry Chicken with Blue Rice and Yogurt Curry Chicken with Tomato Rice. Pictured is the Signature Nasi Lemak ($8.90) which comes with the staple fluffy coconut rice, fried peanut, fried ikan bilis, hard-boiled egg and this time round, it contains a portion of the ayam masak merah, which literally translate to be chicken cooked in a red sambal sauce. On the side is also the additional sambal that’s prepared by the restaurant from a secret recipe. To order food delivery from XiXiang Kaya Kopitiam, you can WhatsApp 9800 5804 or visit https://take.sg/s/6598005804, and there is a minimum order of $30 with a flat delivery fee of $5. If your orders exceed $80, you get to enjoy free delivery or alternatively, you can self-collection from the outlets itself.

The homemade Kaya is fragrant and nicely sweetened but I wouldn’t recommend the $8.90 handmade banmian (not featured) which is pretty basic and forgettable. Head to the nearby City Plaza for some kickass chilli #banmian instead. #livetoeat #payalebarquarter #kayatoast #sgfood #sgfoodies #whatweekendsarefor #burpple #burpplesg
