Chanced upon the social media pages of Winglicious the other day and decided to drop by and check them out — located at Blk 421 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 within the La Kopi coffeeshop that also houses the ever-popular Bangkok Street Mookata, Winglicious is a fried chicken wing specialty store that serves up a variety of Korean-style fried chicken wings — think flavours such as Sweet & Spicy, Signature, and more local-centric ones like Salted Egg as well. The wings are sold here in either 6 pcs or 12 pcs portions — this equates to a portion size of 3 entire wings (i.e. drumlet and mid-wings + wing tip) and 6 entire wings respectively. Offering patrons with some choices of sides, one can also find items like fries and potato salad on the menu here as well. Interesting to note is the operation hours of Winglicious — the stall only operates from 4:30pm to 10:00pm; seemingly an attempt to attract the Mookata-eating crowd as well.

Seemingly one of the flavours that is created with the local crowd in mind would be the Pork Floss Wings — essentially the same fried chicken wings are used as the base here, and the difference between the various flavours here are all in the sauces; liked how they seemed to have considered how pork floss just wouldn’t stick to the fried chicken wings as a dry ingredient, thus the addition of a spicy sauce here to gel everything together — some attention to detail right there. The fried chicken had a pretty light batter; very crisp whilst the flesh within was tender and considerably juicy — the flesh also comes off the bones fairly easily as well. What we really liked was how the sauce seemed to have brought everything together pretty well; seemingly a clear chili sauce that is something similar to the Thai Sweet Chili Sauce, though way more mild in terms of sweetness and spiciness, the sauce seems interestingly infused with probably lime or lemon to carry a slight zing to keep flavours light and mildly refreshing — all that while the pork floss still carries that soft crunch and umami note that makes the wings pretty enjoyable and easy to finish. While we are folks who pretty much enjoy having fried chicken wings though are unlikely to finish 6 pieces in an entire seating, these were actually really easy to polish off from the plate.

It is no doubt that Winglicious does serve up pretty decent fried chicken wings, and especially so for a coffeeshop establishment in the neighbourhoods — their fried chicken offerings does seem to be of a standard that is well above the likes of the same that are served at fast food joints. That being said, it does remain a mystery if the location will prove to be a challenge for them in the long run considering how the crowds seem to be here just for Mookata than anything else — only time would tell; though we would certainly wish them all the best for what is to come!
