@thevoice.sg Pork Rib + Braised Pork Bento Set ($8.80 nett) is a tale of two halves. One half is decent, and the other is considerably less so. On paper, this mashup sounded like a world beater. Lu rou fan enhanced with pork ribs? Oh boy, it’s protein paradise!⠀

In practice, however, this bento which is really just a rice bowl was far from being what it could’ve & should’ve been. The lu rou (braised pork belly) is braised in a soy based stock, fully inheriting the umami from the stock. It’s shredded into small ribbons, and is ladled over the bed of white rice. While it was decently delicious, there wasn’t quite enough lu rou to fully satisfy.⠀

The pork ribs were the lacklustre half. As some of you may have already observed, these little riblets were fried to hell and back. The meat was sufficiently seasoned, so at least the tough overcooked meat has some flavour to it while you attempt to chew through it.⠀

At least this unfulfilling bowl is only $8.80. An L, sure, but at least it’s a small one.

Only a few mains are available for Burpple Deal:
- Braised Pork Rice $5.80
- Chicken Cutlet Rice $6.80
- Pork Intestine Mee Sua $5.80
- Chicken Mee Sua $5.80
- Oyster Mee Sua $5.80

Ordered:
- Braised Pork Rice
This was warm and comforting! The meat was soft and easy.

- Chicken Cutlet Rice
Chicken was nice; As compared to Shilin Fried Chicken Cutlet, it has less seasoning, but the texture of the chicken is chunky and not “flattened” like Shilin!

Love the chicken cutlet rice! Lu rou fan was ok

Fairly average Taiwanese food for a food court standard. However with the Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 deal, it’s really a steal - you wouldn’t be able to get such food at half of the $6.80 pricing. Definitely would be my go-to meal if I’m around the area and looking to fill my tummy while saving money.

Do note that only cash is allowed, so come prepared. The Kopitiam card is not accepted here as that gives you another 10% off.

Braised pork rice from The Voice Taiwanese Cuisine @thevoice.sg at PLQ Mall.

Visited this place with very low expectations after reading reviews on burpple app. But i ended up being very pleasantly surprised by it. I like that the braised pork was not super duper fatty. So it is good for ppl like me that dont really like fatty meat!

Ample sauce was given and there was half a braised egg too! Be warned that the chilli sauce is super duper spicy though!!

This was very worth it with the 1 for 1 on burpplebeyond app!

Quite the typical Taiwanese rice dish, everything tasted pretty normal. You order a Taiwanese dish at the food court and this is what you get. I think the braised pork could be braised longer to become more tender and flavourful but I think the current standard that it is is good enough for the convenience you get at the food court.

Definitely extremely reasonably priced with the Burpple 1-for-1 deal, it’s difficult to get cheap food in malls nowadays. We visited on a weekday to redeem the deal. They didn’t charge extra for takeaway so that was convenient for us.
