The Social Kitchen is truly a hidden gem at Orchard/Dhoby Ghaut. Nestled on the 4th floor of the YMCA building, TSK is a social enterprise that partners with community organisations to operate their kitchen and cafe to optimally benefit the disadvantaged. I chanced upon them while scrolling through Grab, where their 1-1 offer on their vegetarian series caught my eye.
The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente with an addictive tomato based sauce on the sweeter side. Not quite sure how I feel about the “NoMeatballs” as it is my first time trying them. I was served by a really sweet waitress and her friendly supervisor who quickly whipped up another portion of pasta when they realised they had gotten my order wrong ☺️.
Lovely spacious Peranakan-style cafe with the sweetest staff ever, ideal for both chilling and working. Prices are a steal considering the location (near Dhoby Ghuat MRT) and spacious air-con environment.
Everyone from Uncle Steven, Kelvin, the manager and supervisor were so kind, warm and welcoming. Came here for lunch (the miso salmon was delicious and value for money at only $12.80 for two big pieces, with potato mash and fresh veggie), and stayed the entire afternoon to work. Kelvin and Uncle Steven were so so kind to keep bringing us water, their signature sambal chilli, and even replacing my tea bag for free when he realised that my tea was getting diluted. Never experienced such hospitality in Singapore before, and we felt so welcomed despite staying from 1pm till 7pm, and Uncle Steven even went to re-arrange tables for us so we could access the charging point.
The cakes were amazing too and very reasonably priced ($4.50 per slice), we had 3 Yuzu cheesecakes at one go, it was moist and light and a good balance between sweet and tart. Ondeh ondeh cake is also very good with the pandan, gula melaka and coconut flavours coming through well.
This is also a social enterprise hiring people with special needs, hence every dollar you spend here is contributing to a good cause. Very heartwarming experience, my second visit already and will definitely be back! :)

A slice of colourful Rainbow Cake.
Really brings out the happy mood.
Loved the clean, bright dining interior.
I visited The Social Kitchen earlier this month. It’s Singapore’s first social enterprise cloud kitchen that aims to help the underprivileged pursue a F&B career.
A massive plate of fried bee hoon topped with two types of ngoh hiang (meat roll) and crispy prawn crackers. I must say the fried bee hoon wasn’t oily. But the pork filling in the ngoh hiang lacked the flavour and oomph I was expecting. Prawn crackers were crispy and not oily which was good.

Homemade patty cooked medium to medium well and served with melted Cheddar, sautéed shiitake mushrooms, lettuce and caramelised onions. You’ll get a side of crinkle cut fries. The patty is slightly juicy and I forgot to request for medium rare.

Unlike Ming Fa’s other outlets, they use LactoNoodle la mian here which aids with digestion. The thin, round noodles are firm and springy, the fishballs being bouncy and not too fishy. It’s garnished with shiitake mushrooms and shreds of carrot and cucumber.
