Service was a bit slow, but food was worth the wait if you have time. Olive herb sourdough was amazing, and the chocolate fudge cake didn't disappoint.

This slice of red velvet cake was really good - think red velvet brownie. It had little fruity bits inside of it, and the cream on top was light, which overall made this slice of cake not too heavy, as it was of the dense brownie texture.

This flavour is not available on their in-store shelves or for online purchase, only if you email them to order it. We got this yummy slice of cake as part of a celebration while spending a night at their hotel.

Going for some soft foods this time round, I was inclined to ordering this Hummus & Baba Ganoush (S$13.00) because I was in the mood for some hummus.

And I must say, their garlic pita bread was warm and crisp, and tasted really yummy when dipped into the chickpea and eggplant spreads. Why dip? That’s the fastest and most efficient way to make sure that the whole bread was coated evenly before they ended up in my mouth!

3.75⭐ We went once for dinner but it was closed so this is our 2nd time visiting. I wanted to eat the lobster laksa but it has been changed to crayfish laksa. The broth is not very thick and was disappointed even though it's better than average. The surprise dish is the bak kut teh. It's those Malaysia herbal type of bak kut teh. I prefer this than the local pepperish one. I missed this since haven't visit JB for more than half a year.

Nyonya Chicken Curry - $16
·
Tucked away at a corner of the hotel, the marketplace’s chicken curry is really a gem. The right rich texture and nice balance of herb and curry taste. Meat is well flavoured and tender as well. The bite size keropok is great both eaten by itself or dipped in curry. Happy returning customer

One might simply question if it was worth having a S$16.00 curry chicken when this could be ordered at less than half the price elsewhere, but I bet that their Nyonya Chicken Curry could not be compared with this one here.

And it was not only because of some fancy presentation in a claypot. The curry packed some traditional spices and cooked till it was sufficiently spicy and umami, and was relatively thick (I need some baguette for this!). Dipped in the curry were many chunks of deboned chicken with cut potatoes, and the proportion was indeed reasonable. The portion, on the other hand, was quite big, to the point that I almost could not finish the rice. And if the flavours were too “gelak”, please have some Achar to cleanse the palate a bit.

In general, I would definitely vouch that Pacific Marketplace was not just about their Lobster Laksa, for this cheaper option had been underrated for too long.
