More Reviews of good food at Teppei Japanese Restaurant (Orchid Hotel)

Teppei located at Orchid Hotel, is offering very value for money Don and sashimi for lunch.
I ordered the Beef Tataki Kaisendon, using Japanese rice, the bowl full with ingredients like beef slices and sashimi.
The beef is tender and the sashimi is fresh.
💰$17++.

OMAKASE Dinner (S$110++)
Serving seems to reduce especially for the main course.

One will find a gastronomical experience here definitely, as you will experience so many different flavour profiles from their dinner omakase ($100). We realised that we really cannot pick a favourite among the dishes served as most were so darn good. All seafood ingredients served are really fresh, and you really don't need the soya sauce because they are all so flavourful! There is a total of about 15-17 courses, and although most were small bites, they were more than enough to make us full. In fact many in the restaurant were saying that they were already filled towards the end of the course! Really felt like it's worth the price 😊

Teppei’s Omakase dinner has been on my wish list for years and I finally had the chance to visit the restaurant recently. Each dish in the 18-course Omakase dinner ($100 per pax) is fresh, delicately crafted and absolutely delicious.

It’s hard to pick a favourite, but here are some dishes that left a lasting impression:
▪️Minced Tuna Maki with Sea Grapes, Pickled Radish, Flying Fish Roe and Salmon Roe
▪️Snow Crab Don
▪️Button Mushroom Tempura stuffed with Fish Paste and Sakura Shrimps
▪️A5 Wagyu Steak with 15-Layer Potato Pave
▪️Sea Bream Sashimi with Orange Dressing
▪️Firefly Squid in Olive Oil
▪️Scallop with Kombu
▪️Crab Porridge with Uni

Although the portion is small, each dish is a burst of freshness, flavours and umami, and the entire course is so satisfying. For an Omakase dinner of such top quality, the price point is very reasonable and value-for-money. The ambience of the single-counter restaurant is cosy and intimate, and the friendly chefs make the effort to introduce each dish as there is no fixed menu.

Out of all the Omakase courses I have tried locally, Teppei is hands down the best Omakase experience I have had so far.

Pictured: foie gras macaron. This was by far the most exciting omakase ever with the chefs literally spoon feeding u several dishes (crab porridge with miso uni, scallop with abalone gut) and turning off all the lights to sing happy birthday midway through dinner (complete with rainbow wigs). Was a fun experience that left me stuffed with amazing food and memories 😊

What an amazing experience! That chawanmushi in the middle is crazily delicious! It has this gooey yummy layer on top of the steam egg. Mmhmm. Highly recommended everyone to visit at least once a lifetime. 2 hours of dining just flew past without knowing. Left with a happy and full tummy.

Do note that everyone is required to put on a face shield provided by them throughout your entire reservation. It did spoil the eating experience as you have to carefully maneuver the spoon or cup under the shield and to your mouth.

Had the luxury of trying this out due to a treat from a very generous friend.

When Teppei provides free lunch cluster delivery service to my hood, of course place order
Delivery slot was between 11.30am to 1.30pm.
Received order just after 1pm. Not bad considering it was pouring heavily when the order arrived.

Crab with Mentaiko Mayo Kaisendon (S$19.80+)
Served with soyu and freshly grated wasabi packed separately. Can’t really taste mentaiko.

Man Man Unagi Bento (S$34+)
Most expensive yet smallest in package. Sauce packed separately. Wish there’s freshly grated wasabi too.

Teriyaki Chicken & King Prawn Bento (S$18+)
Looked most attractive.

Chicken Katsu Curry Udon (S$14+) ..
The udon fared the worst ‘cos the noodles was lumped together.

Was super excited to place our orders when we saw that Teppei is doing free delivery runs to various neighbourhoods on different days! There are no additional delivery charges nor minimum orders required, except a small variable booking fee - ours was $1.68 for 3 bowls. Each delivery slot lasts about 2 hours, with lunch between 11.30am to 1.30pm and dinner between 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The exact timing depends on their final delivery route.

The sashimi came fresh and in generous chunks with fresh wasabi on the side. Though the marinate seemed a little more sweet and vinegary compared to Teppei Syokudo’s, it was still a satisfying lunch. More details up on Teppei’s Facebook page!

Nope, that’s not beer, that’s roasted barley tea. I received a lot of queries if that’s beer haha but I am heading back to work right after, I cannot afford that. This don is decent and so worth it, rice slightly mushy but I heard that it is not always like this. DIY freshly grated wasabi

this was the lobster sashimi, scallop & tuna chutoro (if i remember correctly). all three were fresh with a natural sweetness. the lobster was especially succulent. ✨

this was the main course of the dinner omakase ✨ fried rice had a deep smoky flavour with a generous portion of fresh uni & roe.

overall, this was a really amazing & special dining experience ☺️ the ingredients are all really fresh & premium (especially the seafood — fresh from japan!). there are many courses with a good variety of ingredients and cooking styles, all executed with close attention to detail. definitely worth it. 💫

This fresh tasting marinated sashimi cubes over flavoured sushi rice really is the best value Kaisen Don one can get. Served with a miso soup, it also comes with free flow sides of carrot/radish and salmon stew.

There are many versions of this dish in the market, but over here at where it all started still taste the best!

Just when you think this is just another Omakase place, they start surprising you by serving fried grasshoppers (only for the brave!) and feeding the sushi straight into your mouth (like your mother would!). Fun and lighthearted atmosphere as compared to other Omakase places.

This was the main course of the month of November (part of the 17-course meal) - unagi chasuke, which was fresh and very much comfort food. Pretty decent quality for its price, highly recommended for anyone looking to try omakase for the first time and do not wish to burn their pockets too much. They change their menus every so often so it’s always a surprise!

$80 for a set. Cheap and good quality, worth your bucks and experience. Changes menu every month, but still depends on what's available. I thought my Nov menu would skip the grasshopper but they still have it 🤣! Good try. About 15 courses, by the time we reach the second last main which ours was the wagyu fried rice, already couldn't finish.

This is so far one of the best chirashi don that serve a generous amount of meat and it is really fresh!
Small siting area so not so much of movement and only counter seat is available. Well, i dont mind as i can witness the chef in action!!

Very reasonable pricing with that amount of seafood. Free flow of salmon flakes for u to add it into your miso soup. Serve also free flow of radish salmon head while u are waiting for food.

This place does not charge GST or service charge!

Above average quality, fresh ingredients and really value for money! Of course you can't compare this with the premium Chirashi @ Jin Fine Dining. But for roughly half the price, its definitely a good Chirashi don! Place serves free flow salmon + daikon soup too, with the daikon being really fresh and sweet. 😋

Rating: 4/5

Very satisfying dinner with Teppei. The seafood and fish dishes were all very fresh and gives natural sweetness to the palate. Every serving of the course was prepared just right and thus at the end of the meal, it felt just right. Above picture: Uni Fried Rice. Uni was so fresh!

$17.60 | One of the best chirashi don ever! Sashimi are very fresh and cut in thick cubes. Wasabi wasn’t too overpowering and just nice. Comes with iced tea, miso soup and many side dishes - soba, pickles and cooked salmon with radish and carrots.

Considering the price, it’s very affordable! Do expect queue during the peak hour.
