More Reviews of good food at Tengawa Hokkaido White Curry (Millenia Walk)

For once I think that the chicken katsu is more tender than the pork katsu. I personally preferred the chicken katsu more, as it was more flavourful, and went better with the white curry.

Every set comes with free flow rice and white curry, as well as a truffle chawanmushi and a bowl of soup.

Very unique Hokkaido white curry served in this restaurant. I loved how the food is served hot & freshly made to the table. What’s better is they offer free flow rice and white curry for every set ordered!

The pork was tender to the bite and deep fried just right to the colour and texture. There were some pork tendons though.

Slightly to the pricey end, but well worth the price for the quality of the food.

Friend recommended this as her go-to lunch spot, and we both ordered the chicken katsu white curry set ($15.80+ / ~$18). The white curry tastes like normal Japanese curry, and had a large piece of potato, carrot, and broccoli instead of the usual cubed onion/potato/carrot. The chicken katsu steals the show as it is crisp without being oily, and moist. Felt almost like pork loin katsu, but chicken!! Miso soup is deceptively plain-looking, yet is light and tasty. Found the truffle oil chanwanmushi pleasant, but nothing special.

Am stuffed with the normal portion, but you can ask for more miso soup and rice as it is free flow. The price is comparable to large Japanese restaurant chains, but much better than their usual chicken katsu curry. The interior is also truer to eateries in Japan, and they helpfully provide a basket to place your bag in for safekeeping.

Been intrigued with this place and white curry and finally gave it a try.

And I’m impressed! Can’t believe I didn’t try it sooner. Their best seller, crunchy chicken katsu set was a delight. With a juicy and uniformly cooked chicken breast, it has an amazing crispy exterior that is achieved by frying at 160°C for 3.8 minutes. How scientific can they get. Despite how light the curry appears, it’s still packed with flavour.

Another great part about ordering the set is that it comes with truffle chawanmushi and refillable soup, rice and CURRY! Will definitely be back if I’m ever at Millenia Walk.

Their Chicken Katsu White Curry Set ($15.80+) comes with FREE FLOW rice, curry and soup AND their signature truffle oil chanwanmushi (ala cartel price: $5). Oh, and they also had unlimited pickled cabbage, which I was not afraid to help myself to that they had to refill the jar. Quite pleased that they did not scrimp on the quality of the soup and curry just because they were unlimited. The soup was really good I had 3 servings of it! Definitely worth a try, but consider going to their other outlet at Far East Plaza as this might be a little inconvenient for some!

Tender & crispy chicken katsu paired with white curry; refreshingly different from the usual japanese curry.

In terms of taste i would say the white curry tasted pretty similar to the usual curry, but lighter in taste and more creamy.

Each set comes with truffle chawanmushi & clam soup. Bonus points for free unlimited refill of rice & soup too.

🐽 This was a very well executed katsu making the 7-8 days aged meat juicy on the inside & super crispy & light on the outside
😋 The chawanmushi was yummy too with a light aroma & taste of truffle 🥚

Their sets come with a truffle chawanmushi, free flow curry, tasty clam soup and rice. The chawanmushi really surpassed my expectations because of its infused truffle fragrance. The curry was quite similar tasting compared to other curry shops in Singapore but I guess people may prefer this because it’s lighter on the palate. For all its free sides, I think the pricing is quite reasonable. Also the servers were hospitable and even gave us free edadame!

Free flow! They even give clams on the top ups! Tau pok was useless though.

They one-upped tendon joints by truffling their free egg custard! And even ignoring that, it's a very good version of chawanmushi.

Curry was nice yes, but found it tasted just like usual Japanese curry, in a different colour. Patty though was delicious. Pleasantly surprised by the free-flow rice, curry and clam soup too. I just whacked.

Ever tried curry that’s white? Yes, white.

Tengawa, the first Japanese restaurant in Singapore to specialise white curry, is prepared using fresh Hokkaido milk. That is the reason behind the colour of their curry unlike the normal orangey colour. Besides that, they serve their clam soup and rice on free flow. How awesome?!

Spicy White Curry Ramen/Udon Set ($16.80+/$13.80+ a la carte) is topped with an onsen tamago, seaweed, onions, slices of iberico pork belly, and dried chilli flakes. Take in a sip of soup and the spices make a mild burn in the back of your throat. The pork belly has springy bite while the noodles are cooked till slightly soft. Served up in a broth base made of clam soup mixed with white curry, its flavour is watered-down making it quite light on the palate. The aromatic onions adds a punchy flavour though it might be overwhelming for some.

This 0-4 degree aged Iberiko Loin Katsu with Rice Set ($19.80+ or $16.80+ a la carte) comes with a small portion of short grain rice tucked under a pork cutlet that's deep-fried to a beautiful golden brown.
.
Your spoon dives first for some of the curry which is creamy in colour. It’s served with a wedge of potato and carrot plus onions that are stewed till soft. The thick sauce is like the usual Japanese curry, but smoother and creamier with less spiciness and more pepperiness. It doesn’t strike as being distinctly different but it being refillable is a definite draw. Rice is refillable too.
.
The crispy breading of the katsu is crunchy, light, and not greasy. The meat is rather succulent and a tad chewy. I strongly encourage you to help yourself to their yakitori sauce that’s on every table because it enhances your meat with a salty-sweet barbeque flavour.

White curry is eye opening!! The udon version is a little dilute for me but flavor is still great! And the iberico Katsu is amazing!! Love the fat and tender pork. The fried oysters are great too. And the truffle chawanmushi is an amazing addition too! Great deal for only $15.80.

Another new addition to Tengawa’s menu is their Spicy White Curry Set - ala carte is also available at $13.80. We got the ramen (but you can also pick udon) but it was unfortunately slightly mushy for us. Thought the white curry and bonito broth was too mild for our liking, even though the added chilli brought up the heat quite a bit. That aside, the generous portion of Iberico pork belly slices were tender. Definitely would recommend their rice dishes over this, and go for their sets that come with a truffle chawanmushi and unlimited clam soup!

Thank you @tengawahokkaidowhitecurry & @jpassportsg for having us! ✨

Back again at Tengawa and this time, it’s for their 0-4 Degree Aged Iberiko Loin Katsu! It wasn’t as thick a chunk, but still satisfyingly crunchy with a nice layer of fats that kept the juciness within. Their curry’s white from adding Hokkaido milk - it’s more creamy, not as sweet and sightly peppery with a stew-like consistency. Top up to their sets for a truffle chawanmushi and free flow clam soup (love that they serve this instead of the usual miso), on top of the standard unlimited servings of rice!

Thank you @tengawahokkaidowhitecurry & @jpassportsg for having us! ✨

White curry was simple and good, soup not being too salty and filled with umami-ness.
Clam soup and chawanmushi was on point too.
Definitely a must visit place!
