Reviews of good food at Tanuki Raw (Orchard Central)

Ordered the mains and an extra “cake + a drinks set” at $15
Their salted egg sauce is not too heavy... Cake was surprisingly yummy!

A bowl packed full of sashimi! Uni, tuna, negitoro, salmon, scallops, swordfish... the list goes on! It’s a good dish if you want to try different types of sashimi, but I was a little confused after a couple of bites as to what I was eating...

A crunchy taco shell filled with spicy fatty tuna, avocado, tomato, onions, and lettuce, I expected quite a lot from Tanuki Raw’s Negitoro Herumetto ($14). Yet...aside from the interesting ‘taco shell’ (essentially tempura-ed nori sheets as far as I can tell), the flavours in all were downright disappointing. The lettuce wasn’t entirely dry and held pockets of water; wee drizzle of spicy sauce too little to support the tasteless unseasoned tuna; and I really don’t get why cheap Kraft-like processed cheese is used for this — it clashes with the spicy sauce, does nothing to support the tuna, and really just stands out like a sore thumb.

They took quite awhile to serve us this bowl of goody. Scallops were really fresh with a tinge of sweetness. Unagi was pretty normal, but the foie gras was really good for the price you paid. Nothing much to complain about, hearty bowl of lunch!

The beef yakiniku slices was really well-cooked, combining with the right amount of animal fats. Onsen egg was meant to be broke and stir in together with the rice below to give off more fragance to it!

Food was pretty good, but service kind of left much to be desired... 🤷🏻‍♂ #burpple

Finally tried tanuki raw at somerset!!☺️ this salmon don was $16 and it was super delicious and fresh!! Portion size was just right too👍🏻 i didnt get to try other items as i was rushing off to somewhere else but the other items on the menu sounds great too! However, its a little pricey for some as items may go up to $30+ per bowl and the queue for it may be half an hour or longer if you come after 6:30pm☹️ do give this restaurant a try and judge for urself! But for me, ill rate the overall experience an 8/10☺️

Lunch time prices make this bowl so SO worth!! The beef slices were cooked to tender perfection and infused with truffle! The onsen egg on top makes the dish a bit more wholesome together with their special rice. Truly comfort food.

Da Salmon to my don!
Tried out this bowl of don at Tanuki Raw @ Orchard Central! Rice topped with delicious salmon. Indeed a fulfilling meal!
Salmon was fresh, Rice was fragrant!
Not only these that are available, There are also many varieties of Dons and food to choose from. Menus dishes are cheaper if you dine during their happy hours!
Really recommended!

Wanted to love this, and it does come with a generous portion of sashimi. Unfortunately, for some reason, the sashimi came warm & were not quite fresh + weren't marinated, had to pour loads of soy sauce in an attempt to get through the bowl. Overpriced for the quality. Definitely not a fan.

Tanuki Raw is located on the fourth floor of Orchard Central. It's my second time
visiting the restaurant and it's definitely one of my favorites. I was given an outdoor seat this time and I loved the alfresco dining ambience. Ordered the Foie Gras Truffle Yakiniku Donburi ($23) and the Salted Duck Egg Char Siew Donburi ($18). I could just eat the Foie Gras Truffle Yakiniku Donburi everyday! A generous portion of perfectly pan-seared foie gras, accompanied by tender and flavourful US Black Angus short rib with an oozy onsen egg, mixed with truffle soy and black garlic brown butter over Tanuki’s signature rice. Every mouthful just brought me to heaven. Another choice would be the Salted Duck Egg Char Siew Donburi. Roasted slow cooked pork belly marinated in salted duck egg char siew sauce and served with an onsen egg over Tanuki's signature rice. The former would still be my favorite and I would definitely go back Tanuki for it again!

Tried the Truffle Yakiniku ($18) & Salmon Kaisen ($16). Both the meat & sashimi were really tender & fresh. Additionally, we also ordered oysters ($2 each) during their happy hour from 5-8pm. Oysters were also really fresh but they were kinda small and also, in order to get them at such a low price, we must order a drink.

Didn't queue long for this, however, the food came really slow.

Cost: $18

Pan seared US black angus short rib, onsen egg, truffle soy sauce and rice.

I'm glad I finally did this even though I'm a little late to the party. You can get oysters at only $2 during oysters happy hour daily from 5pm to 8pm, and I think most people already know about this. These are good, fresh raw oysters.. sourced from France, Canada, and Japan.
Every order of a cocktail ($10 to $14) entitles you to purchase of half a dozen oysters at $12, and it comes with 2 beef gyoza. I happily paid for 3 cocktails and 18 oysters, and I was a very, very happy man.
