Excellent food. Great place to celebrate birthdays (see birthday promotion on website). We were served by Janelle who gave her best smile and attentive service and did her best to meet our requests.
Wrapping up our joyful adventure with this snow crab bao dish, our whole perception about Japanese fusion food has been transformed. The highlight is a lightly crispy well cooked Bao. It is a texture play when combining with softy snow crab. Before you realize you eat so much greens, the whole bao is gone! ๐ We know that we would definitely come back for some more...๐๐
Perfect for 2 sharing persons, this Futo sushi (futomaki) type doesn't dissappoint us. Just one pop gives us a mouthful of creamy cubed salmon sashimi tossed in mentaiko. The crispy sesame & shiro negi (Japanese long green onion) are hard to miss as they pile on top of these 2 twinnies portrudingly.๐คฉ
How could we miss their signature. We are quite curious when looking at the name alone. After trying these few makis, then we know that this dish is a must order and our most favourite after trying all the dishes. The toppimgs (from bottom to top) ๐ unagi, scallop, salmon, snowcrab which go so well with cucumber & avocado. If you don't mind torched food, this is the one to go for.
As luck would have it, we manage to get the seats at peak hour (lunch time) without reservation in this wishlist eatery. Daytime this place is popular with office workers in CBD. Then comes the evening, 'Taniki Raw' morphes into a cocktail bar.๐นYou know we always have a penchant for a playful place. ๐
Tuna Sashimi is perhaps the most straight laced Japanese dish that showcases how fresh the ingredients are served here (we would say this is simply gorgeous ๐)
This place shouldnโt come as a surprise to donburi lovers โผ๏ธ Started back in 2012, the eatery now serves a variety of rice bowl, udon, maki and sashimi options with the longest daily-running oyster happy hour in Singapore ๐ฆช
Topped with an onsen egg, the truffle yakiniku bowl comes with US Black Angus short rib and pan seared foei gras ๐ The tender truffle beef paired with the flavourful signature mixed rice. You can also top up (+$7.10) for fresh truffle shavings! ๐ซถ

A mix of salmon sashimi, aburi salmon belly, cubed spicy salmon and mentaiko seared salmon sashimi, this ikura-topped recommend item is definitely value for money ๐ฐ
For those who are visiting the Orchard Central outlet for an early lunch, place your orders before 12pm and enjoy a 15% discount on your donburi or noodle bowl. Also upgrade to set meals with salad, miso soup, green tea ๐ต for only $3
Alternatively, get their chirashi don ($20.90) that comes with thick cuts of sashimi. Featuring tuna, salmon belly, scallop, swordfish, white tuna, yellow tail ๐ and tamago.
What we ordered at Tanuki Raw
๐ Garlic Butter Chicken ($14.90)
Drizzled with garlic brown butter teriyaki sauce, the pan-fried chicken cutlet is served atop flavourful rice and complete with an onsen egg ๐ฅ But I still prefer their truffle yakiniku and chirashi bowls
๐ฃ Superstar Roll ($15.90)
Salmon with mentaiko sauce and mozzarella cheese ๐ง
๐ฃ Tanuki Aburi Maki ($18.90)
Snow crab and unagi wrapped in salmon and scallop ๐ฆ
Overall: 8/10
A delicious yakiniku don from Tanuki Raw! I have to admit, the portion size had set my expectations low and I would have preferred a tad bit larger bowl. Still, the beef was super tender and well seasoned. They were generous with the beef as well, and the rice coated with runny egg made for the perfect bed.
I loved how well balanced the flavours were and will definitely return for this!

A generous mix of salmon sashimi, aburi salmon belly, cubed spicy salmon, mentaiko seared salmon sashimi and ikura over Tanukiโs signature rice. Definitely a bit pricier due to dinner, but the service was amazing. I had bought cakes for a friendโs birthday and the staff prepared the cakes with candles right after we had finished our mains. Thanks for trying to sing a birthday song and for the mini cocktails on the house!
For dinner it's about $18. The fish is fresh and good. Just like the usual Tanuki standard. I still think it's a better deal eating this during the lunch hour which is definitely much cheaper.
This is their chirashi don with their signature mix rice. As usual their fish is fresh and goes well with the rice. I think it's a decent meal at $19.00.

First bite in and youโll definitely be able to tell that the slow braised beef was well-marinated with its deep soy umami flavours diffusing in each mouth! ๐ฅบ I particularly liked how the beef werenโt sinew and was relatively tender with a slight chew. Rice was cooked to perfection - fluffy and well doused with sauce. ๐
๐
However, the yolk seemed to make the rice tad watery. ๐ฑ I would also prefer consistency in its meat as some beef cubes were spicy while other parts werenโt. ๐ง Was also expecting a more complex flavour too as it turned out quite monotonous.
๐
Nevertheless, itโs a decent meal with adequate serving and taste for $10++! It works perfectly as a quick-fix lunch when youโre craving for something slightly atas too. ๐ฅณ Get the salmon bowl instead! ๐

For only $10, it comes with myraid variety of thicc and generous serving salmon slices. The fresh salmon pieces served was fresh and silky smooth, and surprisingly, with a hint of charred fragrance due to the aburi salmon beside it. ๐ฅ The mentaiko was creamy, though slightly lacklustre as I hoped that it could be more seared and stronger tasting. Rice was served with an extra OOMPH due to the addition of seasoning but it also comes with an acquired taste which some may not be used to. The entire dish was elevated with a dollop of of ikura โ providing the flavours reminiscent of the sea with its savouriness and umami. Last but definitely not a fact to missed, did you know that Tanuki Raw uses freshly grated wasabi? Although it wasnโt as pungent, itโs still a lethal tear jerker which left me crying for tissue after every bite of the addictive spice. ๐ง
๐
For a price like none other, and a satisfying lunch bowl packed with only the generosity of Tanuki Raw, I guess Iโm proud to announce that Iโve found my next favourite lunch spot. ๐ณ

Fun fact: I tried the decorative leaf too. ๐ฌ
