An old school pau shop - taste and standard wise I would think pretty normal (we tried char siew bao, da bao, and siew mai) but somehow there’s something about these paus that make them so irreplaceably nostalgic! Perhaps receiving them all packed into a plain cardboard box also plays a part in its exuding of old school vibes.

Think old school places like these may reduce in number over time, so I treasure my every visit here.

Char Siew Bun

I don't like bc they didn't remove the pork bones and herb from the filling 🤔. Overall it taste normal and a bit sweet 👌

Never really been a fan of 包 or “bao” but I’ll make an exception for the pork one at Tanjong Rhu Pau at Blk. 7 Jalan Batu.
Produced fresh daily by hand right on the premises, theirs are a mouthwatering combination of thin skin and a very generous amount of deliciously-seasoned, juicy filling. Yums!

Big Pork Pau has the fillings of big pau (pork + egg) but is the size of a regular pau. I think I may like this even more than the char siew pau if the skin is thinner?

Char siew pau is mini pau size but generously filled with char siew, along with skin that is not thick. Fillings taste kind of like sweet bak kwa (abit smokey) to me. Delicious but I wish they are slightly less sweet so I can eat more.

These are little char siew paus from Tanjong Rhu. I like that I can just pop them into my mouth and enjoy the moist meaty fillings with a good fat ratio. Best steamed before eating, and it would be really enjoyable. 🔸

Meat pau, yuan yang pau and char siew pau. Normally not a fan of char siew pau, I was impressed by this. It's not those fresh char siew at dim sum eateries, but the fake type, but not sickening. Siew mai (unpictured) also ordinary.
