Slowly, the pioneer generations of hawkers will start to retire and with no one to hand down the recipes to or take over the business, many of our iconic dishes will be lost to the history books.
In order to preserve the heritage and ensure our hawkers are given their due recognition and respect, show them our support and keep the culture alive. Stop complaining that the stall owner has increased the price of a plate chicken rice or fried noodles by $0.50 when you are willing to spend more than $10 for a brunch set in a cafe without flinching.
Aesthetics play a big role in the food business nowadays where everyone is trying to plate their dishes to make it look Instagram-worthy. However, I feel that there is much beauty left to be unearthed in that plate of western food or chicken hor fun, sold in a coffeeshop. It's time to preserve what we love.
This was a media event hosted by @tigerbeersg and many thanks to Ogilvy PR for the invite.

Chinese style Nasi-Lemak. Always very good. Their coconut rice is always soft and fluffy with a very nice fragrance. Dishes are always freshly cooked. But their seafood is rather expensive so choose wisely. Recommended: Otah.
Bee going is well-fried and the taste of pig's trotter "oil" is sinfully fragrant, making this a totally satisfying meal!
