Noticed the-then yet-to-be-opened Super Supper still undergoing renovation work whilst making a visit to Aphrodite the other day, and made a mental note to find out what they were serving up once they had opened their doors. Caught wind of them being opened and decided to just head there since we were already in the area. Turns out, Super Supper is opened by the folks behind Reimondo Seafood Congee / Reimondo Food Truck by Reimondo Seafood Congee which are located at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre and Timbre+ at one-north respectively. Whilst they are probably most well known for their seafood congee at this juncture, Super Supper is a venture that is set to be different from what they are known for — being situated at the heart of Jalan Besar, Super Supper aims to be a spot to hangout that is open till late night; 3am to be exact. Occupying two floors of the shophouse unit that they are located in, level two of the shophouse does have a more conducive dine-in setting though is only open for diners only as and when it is required. In retrospect, the decor on the ground level felt a little haphazard; whilst they do have chairs that would fit a setting of a cafe going for a Balinese-inspired interior matched with tables with a marble-esque tabletop, the set up fills strangely like a canteen with self-ordering kiosk situated at the counter almost akin to a fast food concept. Reimondo’s signature seafood congees are not available at Super Supper; instead, Super Supper’s menu features comfort food — the closest one can get to the offerings available at Reimondo Seafood Congee would be the Super Supper Herbed NZ King Salmon; other mains available includes western items such as the Super Supper Chicken Chop, Super Supper Rolls (i.e. bread rolls with meat sandwiched in between — think Poor Man’s Lobster Roll and Cheese Steak Roll) and various forms of Sanuki Udon amongst others, whilst they also do have a small variety of side dishes under the Sidekicks section of the menu. Beverages available at Super Supper and the time of writing includes hot drinks and cold drinks — some of which being selections from Pokka, Nestle and Nestea.

For those who are familiar with Reimondo’s other previous ventures, there was also the Crabmeat Wanton Mee which used to be located at MacPherson Road — the Super Supper Crab UFO (3 pcs) can be said as an ode to Reimondo’s previous venture before Reimondo Seafood Congee, though in an improved format that is refined over time. These Super Supper Crab UFO are pretty much wantons but done in a style of their own — rather than taking simply one wanton skin and wrapping the fillings within it, this rendition sees the paste being sandwiched in between two wanton skins and deep-fried; this inevitably increases the crunch factor of the dish, all that whilst the paste within does come with an evident sweetness from the crabmeat, and also chunks of prawns that actually provides a bite. These are pretty good on their own so the mayonnaise wasn’t quite necessary for us, though we would definitely agree that we could with some Thai sweet chili sauce on the side that would go better with this.

Despite how the setup of the establishment looks, Super Supper is a spot that sorta delivers if one looks past its decor that we find is not really well put together especially when compared against its facade which is especially hip to begin with — we were pretty satisfied with the Super Supper Herbed NZ King Salmon which was flaky and done medium-rare; savoury and flavourful, as well as the Lao Po Wings that is said to be an “accidental recipe created by le Wife and everyone loved it ever since” — some sources say it is almost like Coca-Cola wings with a distinct herby note similar that is typical of Chinese herbs which we found to be pretty addictive on its own. Yet another case of a spot that one should no judge a book by its cover; look past its quirky aesthetics, and it does have quite a lot to offer!
