When you think of Sumo prawn mee you think of big prawns. But you may forget their other quirk - they don't have dry version. I'm not sure is it principle or lazy. Did the soup live up to it? It didn't make my list of the greatest, but it's very good. Even the chilli accompaniment is not the kind used in dry prawn mee. I give points for that though because eating them together was a new experience. Thank god for semi-peeling the prawns. Their bowls by default come with clams.

Recently checked out Sumo Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee, the sister shop of famous Sumo Big Prawn. This stall sells Hokkien mee, fried carrot cake etc and we tried the Hokkien mee. Was a little disappointed because we thought that these would be cooked fresher on the spot but the guy manning the stall simply scooped up some noodles leftover in an unheated wok and served it to us. Thankfully noodles were still warm. Taste wise it was decent too and had plenty of umami, but overall it could be fresher.

Few years ago, they were the talk of the town serving lobsters in hawker centers and the queue to get a bowl of noodles easily took more than 30mins. Fast forward... there wasn’t any queue on a weekend lunch hour.

A bowl of prawn noodle comes with 3 prawns and a handful of plump juicy clams. The prawns were fresh and the broth was sweet and flavourful but I felt that something was missing. The taste of prawn in the broth was not prominent enough and tasted more like a bowl of seafood soup. it’s probably due to the use of other types of crustacean 》$5

Not gonna lie, when I first saw the price list I was like “Wah so ex”, but after trying the food here I’ll come back and willingly fork out the money. Portion sizes are massive, definitely sumo-sized, and they don’t hold back with the ingredients. The prawns are easily the biggest I’ve had in a prawn noodle till date and they were Uber fresh, extremely juicy and deliciously crunchy. Broth wise is on the lighter side but it still had a strong prawn taste, if that makes sense. Really want to come back and order the bowl with crayfish, looks insanely good.

Sumo prawn noodles ($5)

Comes with 3 small prawns and clams. Soup is sweet but has msg as I felt thirsty after that. The prawns have no muddy taste but some had the shells sticking to the flesh, so can be fresher.
