Forever and always! I have no idea why they left, any ideas?

Not sure why they would serve on a plate and not a bowl, as it does not look as presentable. I have also tried the Wagyu beef at the outlet in suntec, so I can compare this against that, and I have to say the suntec one beat this hands down.

However do try the sashimi or the kaisen don, it is really really good. The set also came with chawanmushi (not available in suntec outlet) and a matcha mochi.

Value for money with good quality fish and Japanese mochi! Really pleased with this place. And their sets are filling in a just-right way ๐Ÿฑ

Price hikes are such a bummer. Gone are the affordable lunch sets that come with frills like salad, miso soup, and dessertโ€”those are now chargeable add-ons on top of each a la carte lunch special.

The upside is that the rice bowls are now flavoured with okaka bonito flakes and sweetened soy sauce, which really makes every bite so tasty. The sashimi cubes are fresh as usual, and I highly recommend getting the truffle option. The truffle paste is so good you might be tempted to order another serving (10g for $3, but oh-so-worth-it).

(No queue somemore) We ordered the Salmon Ikura Don set ($18.80++) and Mixed Bara Kaisen Don set ($20.80++). All lunch set comes with salad, prickles, chawamushi, miso and Mochi! So value for money! Salmon don are more generous whereas bara kaisen don was very small portion. Both are equally fresh and good but I would recommend salmon ikura don over the mix bara kaisen don for the quantity! ๐Ÿ‘: 5/5

Sumiya's Salmon Ikura Don Lunch Set @ $19.80 (excl GST and Service Charge)

With its generous portions of fresh sashimi on top of freshly made sushi rice, Sumiya has definitely become my go-to restaurant to satisfy my cravings for some good Japanese food. The lunch set menu is quite affordable as the rice bowl also comes with sides of Chawanmushi (delicious egg custard, but could've done with a pinch more salt) and a side salad topped with delicious sesame dressing (which is actually rather refreshing and helps you not get sick of the chunks of fish). The set even comes with dessert of Matcha Mochi which was a nice end to the glorious meal. 10/10 from me! :)

Unagi bamboo rice with edamame beans - delicious!

The portions are a bit small so prepare to spend more money. There isn't a wide variety of choice on the menu but everything is unique and tastes great!

What is better than a donburi?!
It is a double don!!

Soft grilled eel marinated with the classic sweet-savoury sauce, served with assorted tempura and a bed of pearly white rice; Sumiyaโ€™s Unagi & Tempura Double Don makes for a great food coma-inducing lunch option. The unagi was melt-in-your-mouth good, while the tempura prawn was nice and crispy (though the batter could be slightly airier). Loving the flavoured soft boiled egg tempura, this bowl unfortunately sets you back quite a bit - $26.80/A la carte, $33.80/Lunch Set.

The food is good, but I would say service wasn't impeccable. Most of the servers had a hard time conversing in English. Also, that day my phone battery went flat, and I asked if they could help me get a Cable or charge my phone, cos I had my power bank but not the cable. But the staff claimed that they all uses iphone hence do not have android cable.
Hmm.......

Sumiya offers some really nice set lunches available till 2.30pm! I ordered the conger eel rice bowl set, which came with chawanmushi, miso soup, a salad, pickles and a really yummy matcha mochi! I loved all the sides! The eel on my rice bowl was also good. Look at that shine! I've had eel where the bones were still hard, but this one's been stewed till the bones were so soft I couldn't even detect them. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Not to mention, the amount of eel just overwhelms my rice hahaha. I think this was quite a steal at $21.80++

Always a good clean lunch option when you're in Orchard! Reviewed this many times and this remains good.

A quick check at Burpple and you'll see that almost every Burppler who has been to Sumiya reviewed it's Chirashidon set ($20) that comes with pickles, chawanmushi, salad, soup, mochi and the highly rated Chirashidon. With fishes so chunky and fresh, I enjoyed every spoonful of fish cubes! Best part, the mountain of chirashi is sizable and I felt very very satisfied after the meal.

Sumiya's set lunch is one of the best in town. Ranging from SGD18.80 to SGD38.80, one will get a don, miso soup, chawanmushi, a side of salad and dessert. I went for the Anago Don (SGD 20.80) (conger eel) and it did not disappoint. I like that they used minimal seasoning on the eel and sauce on the rice, so that one can taste the richness of the fish. The accompanying chawanmushi and miso soup complements the main dish well and the mochi dessert made it a very happy ending. Not to mention, at 12th floor of Orchard Central one can get dining with a view too! ๐Ÿ˜„

Famished after catching many Magikarps, we decided to fill up our tummies with some succulent salmon sashimi and ikura. ๐Ÿ˜‹ And devour their lovely daifuku like a Snorlax!

We have not visited Sumiya for its lunch sets for a while and we observed some changes.
1. Salad portion is upsized! ๐Ÿ‘
2. Bowls and bowls of this yummilicious don are prepped in advanced so you will be served in 5 mins or so. Rest assured because the sashimi cubes were still chilled and fresh upon arriving into our big mouths. ๐Ÿ˜†

Let's play spot-the-difference game, shall we?

The amount of sashimi was significantly lesser than the display picture on Sumiya's FB and menu at the restaurant. We totally understand the disclaimer that the display pictures are for illustration purposes only. But such a big difference is almost scamming consumers. Mind you, the usual price for this is $35.80. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ We thought it would be good to share with fellow foodies not to fall prey to such temptations. ๐Ÿ˜‡

It's been awhile since I last went over to Sumiya, and boy their menu have went through a major makeover. The menu is so compact, that many items that I loved are gone (such as the Japanese tomatoes). Yakitori was a disappointment, with only a few items to boot (I mean honestly what is a Yakitori place if there is only 10 items on the menu). It seemed like they are only interested in aiming for the lunch crowd, because their lunch deals are very affordable, and value for money. Take this Kaisen Bara Don set, it comes with 2 small sides (pickles and jellyfish), standard chawamushi, miso soup, a small salad, and a dessert on the side (mochi). The sashimi cubes are nice and chunky, fresh enough to be eaten, and certainly value-for-money. I was pleasantly surprised by the mochi dessert, the mochi is thin and soft, with smooth black sesame filling. The natural sweetness of the black sesame was brought forth.

Imagine thick cuts assorted sashimi on a bed of japanese rice, finished with a velvety soft matcha mochi as dessert - ๐Ÿ’ฏ Perfection! #mamamia

Huge, chunky pieces of fish that were pretty fresh. The slightly lumpy and cold rice wasn't as appealing though. The mochi that came as a dessert (set lunch) was great, with a smooth cream custard filling in the middle. Do make reservations during weekends especially if you're coming in a big group.

Finally made my way to @sumiya.sg to try its affordable lunch sets.
.
The mixed bara kaisen don set (S$20.80++) comes with an appetiser, salad, pickles, miso soup, chawanmushi and mochi dessert.
.
At the stroke of noon, you can see rows of bowls sitting on the sushi bar, all ready to be churned out like a factory for guests who come to order the popular chirashi sets. Its popularity is a true testament to how fresh those large sashimi chunks are.
.
I left extremely satisfied, both stomach and wallet wise. Lunch orders are from 12nn to 2:30pm.

Posting my pescatarian sister's eats! For $20.80 this was seriously value for money. So much fresh fish with avocado and it also came with sides like chawanmushi and side salad. Bang for you buck!
