* This place has closed :( Please try somewhere else. * Stray is a brand new concept restaurant serving progressive Chinese cuisine. Progressive in the sense that we always want to be coming up with new takes on Chinese classics. Think ABC (a local fruit and vegetable drink made with apples, beetroots, & carrots) redone as a dessert or even Salmon Yu Sheng (traditional Chinese New Year salad) as a rice bowl. Combining avant-garde cooking techniques with traditional Chinese flavors, we aim to serve stunning and unique dishes while keeping it affordable. We want everyone to experience just how far the boundaries of Chinese cuisine can be pushed and redefined as we stray away from tradition. Incorporating fine-dining quality and theatrics, we are making Chinese food hip and trendy by putting our our own personal touch on it. It's not just modern Chinese, it's progressive. That ginger mousse on top the truffle beef bowl was quite interesting, and the truffle fries were crunchy and of the texture that I like, just not exactly truffle-scented (more like regular fries with cheese shavings) ๐ŸŸ

The Mont Blanc ($9) might appear to be really simple and unassuming, but beneath the chestnut cream is fresh cream blanketed over a vanilla sponge and blueberry compote while the frangipane tart contains fresh blueberries.

Perhaps considered to be the crowd favourite, the chestnut is no doubt prominent, with the blueberry elements providing the dessert with some sourness for an overall balanced and pleasing taste. ๐Ÿ˜‹

This is actually a matcha white sesame cake, with a matcha white chocolate cream exterior, a white sesame mousse interior. Encased within the mousse is a rich but not overly strong matcha core. The cake itself is pretty delish, with distinct notes of the matcha and the subtle taste of the white sesame.

Matcha lovers would probably appreciate this much more than I would hahaha ๐Ÿ˜‚, thick gooey matcha centre. Outer layer was pretty dense.

Itโ€™s more than just a pretty cake, creamy white chocolate mouse with a strawberry jam filled centre on top of a crunchy biscuit.

It's actually Matcha White Sesame ($10+), one of the recently introduced cakes at @stray.sg.

The exterior is what I'd assume to be a white chocolate matcha cream due to the distinguishable sweetness which resembles white chocolate, but for some reason a red bean-like taste lingers on after. Cutting into the cake would reveal a white sesame mousse with a rich matcha core that's rich enough to taste without being too bitter. The white sesame seems to be a little lost in translation with this one though.

On a separate note, lighting here is horrible here without sufficient natural light from the glass ceiling (it was raining and I used a torchlight and had to use a low f-stop ๐Ÿ˜ข) so if photos are very important to you, do check the weather forecast. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ
