More Reviews of good food at Strangers' Reunion

Got this for free one day as a nice sponsor gifted these to my workplace. Oh m gee this is so good. Can’t decide whether I like their white magic or this more haha

$5.90++ for this large cup of chai latte. However it was too milky and a bit too sweet in my opinion. More chai pls :)

Came on a weekday afternoon. This is a nice place to chill in the afternoon with a book or to have a nice long conversation with a friend.

$5.90++ for this big cup of iced matcha latte! But it was too milky and a bit grainy. Stick to their coffee.

Interior, vibe: 4/5
Price: $$
Coffee: ☕️☕️☕️

Flat whites are well balanced, on a nutty finish.
Milk frothed well, less foam, yes.
Staff said we can order first, pay later 🤔
Is it because.. my friend chio?
Hahaha, kiddin’

Interior, vibe: 4/5
Price: $$$$
Food: 🍞🍞🍞

If you love avo toast, you will like this version of it. Well balanced ingredients tho poached egg was kinda tasteless, drips well. The greens was crisp & fresh. Food are slightly on the pricier side. About 30-seater estimated.

White Magic is good as ever. Was also pleasantly surprised by the Sea Salt Chocolate which had citrusy notes to it😻

These tasty brews are going at $38 for a bundle of 6 (instead of $6.9/ bottle), with islandwide delivery available (free for orders over $50).

Among the places offering chocolate drinks nearby this is still my favorite - adequately thick with a dash of salt which gives it another dimension. It tastes just nice to be drank by itself and can also be slightly diluted with milk.
You can return the bottle (give it a thorough wash beforehand pls) if you feel so eco-unfriendly indulging in so many takeaway containers nowadays (no monetary incentives for that, saving the earth is the incentive) and they will sterilise and reuse it.

In frame: Sea Salt Chocolate [$7.4 walk-in, but I think $6.9 delivered with further discounts for bundles]. They are still delivering from their sister outlets, Curious Palette and Wakey Wakey.

Everything is overpriced and over-hyped.

Delivery was super late, owners didn't inform till I called them.
Had to call the cafe to ask if the driver was coming near 6pm since I haven't heard from them since they called to inform that my order had missing item at 4ish pm (which they should have done so before my delivery time slot).

Booked for 4-6pm, first part of my order came at 7pm.

My order wasn't even complete! They missed out my dinner and just delivered coffee and dessert! BEST! Desserts before meals right?

Dinner only came by much much later, around 8pm!
Apology was sloppy and service was just deplorable compared to other cafes offering similar menus.

This is my first and my last time with SR.
Really unfortunate.

Weekends are nearing, and being no stranger to the cafe scene at Kampong Bahru since 2012, we visited here mainly just to enjoy amazing coffee and hearty meals😋 Definitely a place worth visiting!! 😄

Living up to the quality food to our palate, the generous Truffle Tagliatelle pasta was easily our favourite dish, cooked al dente along with their nearly perfect mushroom sauce, strong truffle taste and flavourful!! 😋 And as always, their buttermilk waffles texture was crisp and soft on the inside too 🙌🏻

Featuring 📸:
🍝Truffle Tagliatelle ($17.90++) 👍🏻
🍨🧇Homemade Mixed Berry Compote Buttermilk Waffles ($12.90++)
🍫🥛Sea Salt Chocolate, chilled ($6.90++) — My go-to and fav besides their latte 🤤👍🏻
🍵Matcha Latte ($5.90++)

What initially seem to be a Nutella-drizzled waffle did not really taste like it but it was equally good. Real good. The ice cream just tops everything. This is definitely a welcome alternative to their other fruity waffles.

In frame: Hazelnut Praline Waffles [$14.5]

And this time around I finally tried the highly-raved coffee smoked salmon. Everything was well-presented and cooked, as always. However I don't think the coffee cream really boosts the dish, rather gimmicky even.

In frame:
• Coffee smoked salmon on toast [$18.90]

The toast was supposed to be sourdough but it was crusty rather than chewy, though it was saved by the coffee creme fraiche smeared lightly over it. Otherwise, the smoked salmon, poached egg and greens were all tasty. Overall a satisfying but overpriced dish.

It’s been 5 years since I last came here and the waffles are still as good as I remember. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, with a texture that’s neither too light nor too dear. I like it that many of the waffles have the option of Greek yogurt rather than ice cream – ice cream always feels too heavy for brunch, and Greek yogurt is tasty and healthy. The coffee is good too. I had Magic, one of their specialties, a double ristretto with milk.

Despite the many accolades featured on its walls, the coffee was nothing spectacular. We tried the flat white ($4.90++) and mocha ($5.50++), and found the coffee to be overwhelmed by the milk - which was smooth and well foamed, but not what I was looking for. They do have a large variety of brewing methods to choose from though, so maybe the others would do better than their espresso-based drinks!

The truffle tagliatelle ($17.90++) was easily our favourite dish. The thick pasta was cooked al dente with a great bite. Most interesting is the sauce, which comprises mushroom fricassee thickened with heavy cream! It felt like a really gao mushroom soup with quality ingredients. Loved the truffle aroma and parmesan shavings.

The Strange Breakfast ($18.5++) features toasted brioche with bacon & sausage, mesclun & grilled tomatoes on a vine, garlic baby potatoes & spiced baked beans. We opted for our eggs to be scrambled. Definitely everything you’d expect in a breakfast platter! Appreciated the variety of items included and that quality ingredients were used, but found the portion too small. All in all - I’m not quite sure what the hype around Strangers’ Reunion is about. They offer a twist on the usual brunch food but the execution is lacking, especially given the high price point.

This baked eggs dish ($14.90++) doesn’t quite hit the mark. Would expect a rendition of shakshouka to be thick and rich, but this came across more as pasta sauce - the tomato sauce didn’t hold well and it lacked the oomph from spices. They were, however, generous with the sweet peppers and tomatoes! Ciabatta also seemed more baguette :-(

Pork & Broccoli ($21.90++) features sous vide pork collar, slow roasted broccoli stem, burnt onion jus and broccoli puree. Our first thoughts on receiving this item was that it was distinctly unlike most cafe food, and that the portion was really small.. the meat was tender and juicy but it’s flavour came mainly from the sauces, which were reminiscent of pear chutney. The crisp broccoli was an interesting addition!

Not really worth it and toppings are pretty sad. They provided a small string of Chia seed pudding at the side of the banana which was kinda weird. You either give a dollop or none

The great combination that won't go wrong. The latest menu got a lot of choices on their buttermilk waffles: with Greek yogurt (sounds healthy), milo crumble & caramelised bananas (sounds a bit sinful), homemade mixed Berry compote. Will come back for their tea menu!
