Tomato-based sesame chicken that made me crave for some white rice to balance out the strong flavoursome sesame note. Shedded chicken was tender.

Chawamushi was smooth, flavourful; shark fin was a little too thick for my liking, might do better with more vinegar.

Siew Mai was not porky - as someone who doesnt like pork beyond pork knuckle, i could surprisingly do 2 of these. Har Gow was awesome, exuded the sweetness of the prawn, skin was good- chewy yet light. Delicate.

If you have not already known, Shisen Hanten was awarded two stars in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, making it the highest Michelin-rated Chinese restaurant in Singapore for four years running. This year, the lineup of mooncakes, both baked and snowskin, are packed in a beautiful midnight-blue box with an illustration of a full moon to symbolize the festival and touches of gold to enhance its extravagance and abundance.

From the signatures Classic Double Yolk Baked Mooncake ($79/4pcs) and Baked Mooncake with Mixed Nuts and Jamón Ibérico (Pictured, $79/4pcs), there are also low sugar options such as the newly launched Japanese Pumpkin and Sakura Petals with Low Sugar White Lotus Paste ($79/4pcs) and Macadamia Nuts with Low Sugar White Lotus Paste ($75/4pcs). Between the four baked ones, my favourites are the mixed nuts with jamón ibérico as the addition of these savoury ingredients help to balance the sweetness coming from the white lotus paste while the healthier option of macadamia nuts with the low sugar white lotus paste goes perfectly well with a pot of Chinese tea.

We didn't request for second cooking, just chop and serve. The meat was very dry. It's not an exaggeration to say many hawkers surpass this.

I know they're a Sichuan restaurant so it's our mistake for ordering Peking duck but, this is truly the worst Peking duck I've had so far. Not that it's inedible but very disappointing

Skin was crispy but a bit hard when you chew. Lacks flavour too

Yes they got 2 stars but this dish doesn't warrant at all

Looks can be deceiving. For someone with a low spice tolerance, this is just nice, with a slight numbing effect. Perfect dish to whet your appetite without being overwhelming, though I think hardcore mala fans might find this a bit bland. Served in a claypot, this is just nice for 3 pax (picture above shows the already portioned dish).

The ingredients were generous and seafood was fresh. Portion wise, it's enough for two. However, if you're a fan of wok hey, it is absent in this. Priced at $28++, it may be good idea to pass this to save stomach space and order other unique dishes instead.

Food aside, the restaurant is located at the top floor of orchard wing in mandarin gallery, which offer nice views. Due to P2HA, we were one of the 3 pairs of customers in the restaurant, which is quite sad for a restaurant with such a nice ambience and furthermore, being a 2 Michelin starred one. Staff were friendly and super attentive!
