Mezcal-based cocktail that was so well balanced and not overpowering. Made by Anthony’s disciple, who himself is a highly experienced bartender, this was my more adventurous choice of the night! Sharp and a little dry, though it still glides smoothly down the throat.
Chanced upon Shin Gi Tai one Tuesday evening with a friend and found much to enjoy here. Anthony, the head bartender, is an expert in his craft and will happily mix something up for you based on flavour profiles you like. If you’ve got a base in mind, that works too. I had a fruity/flowery one with gin, elderberry liqueur and some grapefruit to start. Each concoction will likely set you back $26-29++ but they’re well worth every penny!
Salmon & Clams Soup ($16) came highly recommended by a friend, who raved that it's exceptionally good after a night of drinking. 😉
Rare instance that I'm rendered speechless with soup. This sounds good, looks good, smells amazing.... & tastes MINDBLOWING.
That's not to say it was perfect; some of the asari clams still had grit in them - but I'm willing to look past that for how delicious & comforting this dashi sole fish broth is.
I have digestive problems with fish, but was willing to take the risk for how tasty this is. Thankfully, this didn't present any issues for me thereafter. I'd gladly have a bowl all to myself, next time!

I'm the sort of person who wants to slurp everything up... That wouldn't have been possible with the Onsen Tamago with Monkfish Liver ($15). The yuzu ponzo sauce was too salty 😂
The onsen egg & monkfish liver were super, though, absolutely melting in your mouth.
Not sure I'd order this again - would probably try something else on the menu.

Let's talk food at Shin Gi Tai. Their Tako Wasabi ($10) is a super refreshing nibble, especially when the wasabi sauce punches your senses awake. The octopus bits have great texture - bouncy & snappy when you bite into them.
I loved this, although it's a bit too much for 1 person to finish. Totally would get this again - it'd be great as a sharing dish.

Honestly, Shin Gi Tai needs no introduction. While they've mysteriously removed their official accounts from social media, their legacy more than lives on.
There isn't a standard drinks menu here, but several asked me after-the-fact: Did you get a Negroni? While it isn't my usual choice of poison (don't hate), I knew I had to. & I loved this one that Wong made for me.
On the flip side, there *is* a food menu.. But wait. It's titled "Bar Snack Menu"? How good can it be?
You'd be surprised, as I was. I'll share more in my next posts 😬
