Shake Shack (Covent Garden)

Yes, it is massively popular and has a legion of ardent fans. Yes, there is always a long queue in the restaurants and prices are not cheap. And so, curious about the hype, we decided to give Shake Shack a try before it comes to Singapore next year, which they will definitely be charging the same exorbitant prices for burger and fries. This is the famous Crinkle-Cut Cheese Fries which costs £4, equivalent to around SGD 7.50. Don’t get me wrong, this is yummy as the fries is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside while the cheese is gooey and well, “cheesy”. However, I don’t get the cost-to-value in this and a certain burger restaurant chain that has a number and gender in their name has much better fries in my opinion.

Before this comes to Singapore in 2019, I had this famed fast food chain a try and the overall experience was slightly underwhelming. Probably due to the anticipation and high expectations, this ShackBurger with added bacon was nothing life-changing. I was even denied a side of peanut butter sauce even though I was prepared to pay it and was told that they do not serve that when they have a peanut butter milkshake. An further review of the ShackBurger will follow thereafter.

They even come up with Christmas Cookie Milkshake. Already soaking in the Falalala spirit of Christmas. And it's only Nov.

One of the best burger I've ever had. Beef patty was tasty and juicy. The portobello mushroom was deep fried with cheese and was simply amazing (tho I reckon there was a bit too much cheese) Cheese fries were fried to perfection and just the right amount of cheese. Worth the money, worth the queue and worth the calories!

Is it worth the money? You can be the judge when it opens in Singapore next year. To me, to pay more than 10 SGD for a cheeseburger in a fast food restaurant, I rather spend my money elsewhere. Even the highly rated ShackSauce in it is not able to justify the price tag. What you are probably paying are the premium ingredients such as the 100% natural Aberdeen Angus beef where the cows are grass-fed on UK and Irish pastures and the buns that are made by local bakers. However, I still don’t taste the difference.

The accompanying lettuce, pickles and generous dollop of buttermilk herb mayo cuts through the heaviness of the chicken, making it an enjoyable burger to have apart the regular beef ones.
