The gravy is super delicious that I licked the whole bowl! 👍👍
From SG Braised Rice at Food Opera ION Orchard; the stall is by the same folks behind Thai Village Restaurant and serves braised rice with a variety of different condiments; think fried chicken to fish maw and even pan-fried unagi.
I am usually one who doesn’t get very impressed with the stalls that food courts have to offer, but I must say that SG Braised Rice is perhaps one that changed my perception quite a fair bit. The braised sauce is pretty similar to a good Hor Fun gravy, providing the white rice some flavour especially when mixed with the sauce. Fried chicken was crisp on the exterior and succulent inside, while the braised sauce also comes with a decent portion of greens, mushrooms and seafood; the greens providing a crunch, while the mushrooms giving a good chew whilst carrying an earthy flavour. Seafood includes fresh shrimp, but what’s pretty impressive was getting a rather plump scallop alongside. One of the better options around Food Opera ION Orchard, and perhaps one of the few food court stalls that I would seriously not mind going for again.
Entranced by photos on the menu of choice ingredients topping wok-fried egg rice submerged in glossy gravy, I gave into temptation and ordered what I hoped would be saucy deliciousness.
Whilst the shitake and chicken stock based sauce got my taste buds’ stamp of approval on first sip, subsequent forays proved increasingly salty to the palate.
Having said that, the scallop, shrimp, broccoli, cauliflower, mushroom and snow pea laden bowl along with the crispy chicken cutlet make this an incredibly value-for-money option, though I must warn it might leave you with a brazen thirst.

Ooh, it’s so tasty!
Found this mouth-watering dish filled with plentiful of crab meat, fish maw, mushrooms and flavourful sauce, at one of stalls in Food Opera @ ION Orchard.

You might expect something as saucy as this to be very rich in flavour, but for someone who is extremely salt-sensitive, I found this Braised Fish Maw Rice with Crab Claw ($9.80 nett) surprisingly balanced & lovely.
SG Braised Rice 十格捞饭 is located in Food Opera in B4 of ION Orchard Shopping Centre-- you might think it's crazy to pay this much for food in a food court. But if you think about it, this kind of price for restaurant quality food - it's a real steal. Fun fact: The folks behind this stall are the ones who also run Thai Village Restaurant.
The thickness of the sauce helps keep everything super hot, so don't start shoving things in your mouth & burn your tongue. Take time to savour this dish. The fish maw wasn't overcooked & still retained its bouncy texture. The crab meat was firm & tasty, & I like how it comes peeled already so I can nibble at it with a fork & spoon instead of having to get my hands dirty.
Overall, this was a great meal & I'd like to return to see how the other dishes fare. With premium items like scallops, prawns, abalone (!!), eel & Wagyu beef on the menu, this seems like it'd be right up my alley 😉 Prices range from $6.80 (nett) to $18.80 (nett).
