Established in 1998 by couple Hassan Abdul Kadir and Aminah Binte K. Omar, this legacy brand is amongst the most well-regarded in Singapore, counting Southeast Asian royalty, dignitaries, and heads of government amongst their customers. Today, it remains family-run by their descendants, including founder of Crave Nasi Lemak and their eldest son, Doctor Abdul Malik Hassan.
.
Their rendition features a bed of long-grain basmati rice infused with coconut milk, lemongrass, and pandan / screwpine leaves, resulting in a fluffy loose soft moist texture with beautiful grainy earthy floral sweet herbal milky flavour. The deep-fried ikan bilis / anchovies with roasted peanuts are crispy crunchy firm in texture, shattering with fishy salty savoury earthy nutty flavour. The thin cucumber slices are crisp and juicy in texture with vegetal sweet flavour, while the fried chicken egg is soft and wobbly in texture with eggy savoury sweet flavour.
.
The otak-otak / otah / spiced mackerel fish paste is pliant and soft in texture, carrying fishy savoury spice flavour. The turmeric marinated and battered chicken wing has a lovely crunch to the exterior, a warm tender juicy chew to the interior, and lovely meaty savoury salty spice flavour. Their grainy sambal tumis / stir-fried chili paste has a bigger sweet salty spice flavour kick compared to elsewhere. Additional crispy bits of batter lend an addictive crunch.

The draw of this nasi lemak has got to be the rice! It’s very fragrant and flavourful with the coconut and pandan aroma infused. The chicken is not as juicy as I like, but I like the flavour of the crunchy skin / batter. The meat is not too dry so it’s still ok. Otah was very soft and p legit, a little like those you get in a peranakan restaurant. It’s not the fishcake type. Was sad that the begedil wasn’t crisp. It tasted quite meh. Chilli not super spicy, was on the sweeter side.

Egg was freshly fried so it was still piping hot, yolks were pretty cooked as expected. Ikan bilis and peanuts were crunchy!

It’s not bad, I liked it! If only their chicken was juicier.

A famous nasi lemak stall in Adam Road food center est.since 1998. The stall is 1 in top 100 most nominated hawker of SG mint gift your favourite hawker a coin initiative. Enough accolade, let's dive into their nasi lemak. 😉 i just love the fact that they are generous with chilli, the anchovies are crispy and the coconut rice is just on point. The highlight of this set is a plump and smooth otah. The stall owner is very friendly and suggest me going to royal flush set instead. However, I skip chicken strips and opt for this set instead. 🤩

Nasi Lemak hunt! 😋

This time round I went to try somesay the longest queue stall in Adam Food Centre!

I ordered their Royal Flush set ($5.50)! (Second expensive, i think its the most popular one too!) Its comes with chicken wing, otah, bergedil and egg! I love the rice and wings. The rice is very aromatic and perfect with chili. Worth the wait! ✅

Finally got to try the progenitor of Crave nasi lemak, and it was one of the better ones I’ve had. The basmati rice really makes a difference – light, fluffy and fragrant, pairing perfectly with the sweet and spicy chilli. Freshly fried, the chicken wing was still warm and crispy, making me quite happy we topped up an extra wing and begedil each.

Taste: 3.5/5

Come prepared to queue (at least half an hour) for this famed plate of nasi lemak. P.S. The Prime MInister of Singapore, the Sultan of Brunei and a couple of celebrity chefs have dined at this stall! Treat yourself to the Royal Rumble ($5.90) which has a little of everything — from fragrant fluffy pandan-infused coconut basmati rice to sweet jam-like sambal to a fried yet moist chicken, a buttery bergedil, fried egg, and a nice slab of otak-otak.
