Half Baked Cookie Dough 🍪 ($10) Your diets cry in the face of their Half Baked Cookie Dough – a pan of crisp on the edges but oh-so-sinful soft cookie in the middle. Put the hot cookie together with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream and you have yourself a deliciously comfortable mess. My only (small) gripe is that the ice cream scoop was a little on the small side, running out before the cookie did. 🍨 I also suspect they prepare this fresh upon order as it took some time before coming out. A dessert like this seriously just feels so good yet so baaaaad at the same time! 😂

Steak & Frites I had a craving for steak after reading the review from Burpple Tastemaker Justin Teo, and thought of dropping by this place for their Steak & Frites (S$18.00) since I was near the vicinity. When the dish was served, I was so happy to see a thick slab of steak that exudes the fragrance of freshly roasted beef. For the fact that the steak was served medium-rare and it's such a thick piece, every knife down brings about so much of a mix of juiciness and rawness that wets the entire chopping board. Plus, the salt and pepper marination makes every bite of the steak a salivating experience.

Steak and Frites ($17). Where else do you find steak and frites for $17! And these are quite good. I like the flavour of the beef, and its juices was already oozing out as I was cutting through this.. look at the juicy mess it had left behind 😋 🔸🔸 Taken during a Burpple Eatup.

[New Menu] Appetizers (total $20 for all pictured). The Hangar has launched a new menu, and I found them to be very good. They're flavorful without the use of msg, and they use organic ingredients as much as possible. 🔸 Pictured are (clockwise from the top): Carraway Beef Koftas ($7) Stuffed Feta Jalepenos ($6) Halloumi Eggplant Crispies ($7) (very good) 🔸 There are also 7 new mains, 4 new tacos and an awesome cookie dough dessert. Will update with more reviews! This is taken at a Burpple Eatup.

Omakase ($68, $98, $138) Discovered this on Burpple and no better way to celebrate National Day at a brand new spot. Southpaw offers Omakase with their own special take on the dishes led by Chef Kenny. They also have a good selection of Scottish whisky to curated by Roy the owner to pair with your food. My favorite was the foie gras on hotate sushi, giving you an indulgent melt-in-your-mouth experience. Come here for a unique cosy chef table experience!

For Sushi Omakase in Jalan Besar Set in Cavan Suites, a short walk from The Refinery in Lavender, this brand new dinner-only outfit will have you fed very well. Pop by for their excellent Bara Chirashi Don ($38), a generous heap of cubed raw fish and seafood. This is topped with house-pickled radish and freshly grated wasabi — the latter really elevates the dish to refined heights. If you're in the mood to indulge, consider going for their Sushi Omakase dinner (available at $68, $98 and $138). Expect to be treated to really fresh sashimi, sushi and a lot of delicious fun. Leading chef Kenny Khoo has more than 17 years of experience in Japanese cooking under his belt, and the service staff are also personal and knowledgeable, so rest assured you'll be in very good hands. The owner of Southpaw is a bit of a whisky connoisseur, and they offer whisky pairing with their food (there's also sake for the purists) — this is an experience whisky enthusiasts shouldn't miss out on! The Appetiser and Sushi from my $98++ Omakase Dinner My first dinner here saw me selecting the $98++ omakase (also available in $68++ and $138++). After I had polished off an appetiser of thinly-sliced sea bream topped with caviar (pictured above in the corner top left) and a plate of sashimi, the following seven pieces of sushi were meticulously put together and served one at a time by Leading Chef Kenny: 1. Kanpachi 2. Engawa (Flounder Fin) 3. Marinated Bluefin Tuna with Japanese Yam 4. Kohada and Wakame 5. Aburi Salmon with Chef's Special Bonito Flakes 6. Foie Gras on Hotate (Scallop) 7. Anago (Sea Eel) I found the quality of every sushi to be impressive, both in freshness and in size. Chef then made me a bowl of Fresh Clams in Miso Soup on the spot. Its belly-warming comfort was a really wonderful thing to sip on. My meal was brought to a close with Ume Jelly for dessert.

Omakase Sushi Pairing with Whisky ($68++ / $98++ / $128++) Trust Burpple's product engineer @sidhartha91 to spot a new F&B establishment within the first day of its opening. Once I heard about it from him, I made sure I paid "Southpaw Bar & Sushi" a visit pronto. A dinner-only place, the $98++ omakase dinner was my choice. For the first course, it was a gigantic oyster of the Canadian Rock variety. When offered by the owner Roy, I couldn't resist the unique 2-step whisky pairing of it with "The Ten #3 Light Highland". This is how it went: I first took a sip from my glass of the Clyneish distilled whisky - it was selected by Roy (who's got more than a decade's experience in whisky and cigars) for its flowery, briny notes to complement the shellfish. The pale golden liquid (it has no extra colouring added) got my palate warmed up to better enjoy the lusciously creamy oyster which by the way, was so huge, it had to be sliced in half for eating. After both plump pieces had slipped down my throat, most of the remaining whisky was poured into the empty half-shell for me to slowly savour. Such delicious fun! You might be wondering why the name "Southpaw". Well, Roy explained he didn't want something obviously Japanese as they aren't a classic or traditional sushi restaurant since they offer whisky to pair (but he does stock sake for the traditionalists though). Instead, he wanted something unexpected with a positive slant. Thus the name, because in the sport of boxing, a left-handed boxer would take on a "southpaw" stance, which is believed to give strategic advantage. It was a real pleasure chatting with both him and Leading Chef Kenny Khoo, an industry veteran with more than seventeen years of experience at Nogawa and Tatsuya, last night.

For Penang Eats and Bing Soo After This new joint along Tanjong Katong Road (a few doors down from Punggol Nasi Lemak) is set to satisfy eastsiders with hearty Penang fare and for dessert, an unusual choice of Korean bingsu (the two co-owners are each from Penang and Korea). You wouldn't go wrong with the Assam Laksa ($6) featuring Penang-imported noodles that absorbs the full-bodied gravy so well. The gravy is on the sour side, but is really appetising thanks to its tanginess. Another classic to try is the Penang Char Kway Teow ($6), which has lots of 'wok hei' and just the right amount of spice for a nice kick. For dessert, try the Chendol Bingsu ($6.90), which sees frozen coconut milk delicately-shaven, bingsu style. This is then topped with green rice jelly, red beans and gula Melaka syrup made from scratch. At under $7 for a bowl of artisanal deliciousness, this is definitely a steal. Pro tip: Look out for daily specials like Coconut Iced Coffee ($5) and Penang Nutmeg Juice ($3), and a soon to be introduced Lor Bak (price to be disclosed)! Avg Price: $10 per person Photo by Burppler Veronica Phua

Can't decide between Assam Laksa or Char Kway Teow? Order both! 😆 Love the tangy broth and flavourful kway teow 🤤 Comes at $6 each and you can upsize the portion for an additional $2! I do like the normal portion, because... room for desserts!! Another must order is the coconut coffee. Default comes with one shot and the coconut taste is stronger, order an additional shot if you want more coffee taste! So must better than a restaurant at Suntec that I'm not naming 😏

Number One Burger . | The idea was for the thick bun to soak up the juice of the patty. The caramelized onion, bacon and garlic mayo (I think) gave the overall seasoning to the taste. However, the size was a little too big for my liking. Even the patty was juicy, it was dripping out from the side. . | I would recommend to go for their lunch promo. $12 for burger instead of the regular $14.

Lunch set is a good deal where you one of the 4 signature burgers and fries for $12++ Apparently, all the non-vegetarian burgers are their signatures 🤔 I had Number One, with beef patty, caramelised onions, crescenza (some cheese) prelibato (balsamic vinegar?), gorgonzola (oh no, it's blue cheese!), bacon, arugula (rocket leaves) and thousand island sauce. Only realised there's blue cheese while googling as we sat and wait for our order, but luckily it's not that overwhelming 😅 Was recommended to have the patty medium, but found it dry and pretty bland. Medium rare should work better. Seems like fries either came heavily seasoned or unsalted. I gladly exchanged the latter for someone else's 🤣 We all felt very thirsty after the meal, luckily they provided iced water 💦

XOXO Burger Created in collaboration with Mastercher Asia alumnus @lennardy is this burger which comes with interesting elements such as the house-made XO sauce, dried shrimp, scallop and bacon patty, turkey patty and kaffir lime mayonnaise. This special burger is only available between now till end August 2017. I found the burger substantially sized but doesn't leave one disgustingly bloated even though yes, it can be filling — probably so for there isn't any cheese and does not come with an onslaught of sauces (and also because I just made do with the burger without ordering any fries). A burger I really enjoyed for it's something seemingly created with a slightly heavier flavour profile, the shrimp scallop and bacon party provided an interesting contrast in terms of texture even when stacked atop the turkey patty; the former being a thinner, softer patty with an umami touch while the latter being firmer with a bite; I opted for the patties to be done medium as recommended, but patrons are free to choose their preferred doneness here. In the middle, the sauces create a hint of refreshing, zesty flavour amidst the savoury flavours and creamy texture that made the burger easy to finish; the sauces able to cut through the intense umami and savoury flavours at the same time while everything comes between the two buttered and lightly toasted buns that were pretty good themselves. The only gripe was it's assembly; the orientation of the bottom and top buns seemed to have been swapped thus causing the patties to slide off from the burger while slicing the burger apart. Otherwise, it's something I am actually could have another time again!

Mango Sticky Rice 10.9nett Yeah it costs more than their mains but damn it's worth it. Sweet and plump mango slices and the glutinous rice were just sticky enough. But the real MVP was the pulut hitam sticky rice. It's amazing you have to come taste it yourself. Just sweet enough, chewy, and aromatic. Only gripe was the coconut milk was more salty than sweet lol Get the upsized version for only 3 dollars more it's like double the portion? Superb Portion is also generous so grab some friends

Red Ruby 5.9 Price is due to them dying the chestnuts using butterfly pea flowers so there's purple and red rubies. May sound weird when I say that the coconut milk had an unexpected lightness but otherwise rather normal. If u had to choose a dessert the mango sticky rice would be a no brainer

Phad Thai 7.9nett Add Chicken +2 Very worth it to add on meat! You get to choose between prawn and chicken but why not both? Chicken is still good but I wasn't very impressed with the phad Thai personally. Or maybe I've tasted better thats why my expectations were higher? The rest really enjoyed the phad Thai though. Otherwise, prawn included it wasn't anything special though definitely not bad

Jade Noodles With Double Grilled Chicken 6.9nett Wow the sauce was bomb and the chicken paired with the sauce is superb. Sweet and slightly spicy with the distinct aroma of lemongrass, the sauce also complimented the al dente Jade noodles. I expected the Jade noodles to be harder than I would enjoy but it really works for this particular dish

Heirloom Rendang Donburi Rendang donburi-barely eat rendang when i was living in indonesia and here i am eating this delicacy. I dont eat a lot of rendangs, but this one is a bit different, braising liquid-wise (different type?). Still has that richness and the beef is a lot more tender than what i had. The pickles, rice, etc were good as well. (20)

The Populus Scramble Is Worthy Of Its Fame ($18.50++) Can you believe that my first ever visit to "The Populus Coffee & Food Co." only took place earlier this week? Unlike how it is on weekends, the cafe was not crowded at all when I strolled in at 10am on a Tuesday. Deciding what to have was tough as I was tempted by quite a number of items on their menu. Eventually, it was "The Populus Scramble" that won. I have to say, this signature dish deserves its popularity and must-try status. The scrambled eggs, executed to slightly runny creaminess, was chockfull of marinated feta cheese, fresh herbs and even a few small slices of red chilli. It's served attractively piled on a large, very crispy, buttery croissant and topped with a few slices of bacon. In terms of portion, "hearty" would be the word I'd use. The fact is, I struggled to finish all of it.

Sanshoku Chirashi Don from Sushiro, Thomson Plaza. Highly recommend! Ordered one of the populars, the Bara Chirashi Don ($12.80) and just look at that generous portion of sashimi! Sashimi and rice ratio is 1:1 and they were very thick and fresh, which literally melts in your mouth with every bite. 😱😍 However, the queue may get super long & be prepared to wait during peak hours. I've waited for an hour and i got served in 5mins. Very impressed! 😁

Houjicha bread pudding [$9] Being a huge fan of houjicha, I had went in high expectations for this dessert but only to face disappointment. Served warm, the bread pudding had a texture similar to a crossaint interior, soft and pillowy. However, for a bread pudding, the texture was a tad too dry for my liking. Furthermore, the houjicha flavour was mildly detectable in this houjicha-INFUSED bread pudding, with its presence just being the pool of pale brown sauce beneath. The roasted flavour and aroma was unfortunately amiss 😢. The only saving grace was the smooth, creamy and milky vanilla ice cream . . . . #burpple

There are some things that make you go why the heck didn’t I think of that? The Har Cheong Pork Belly ($14) served at Holy Crab is one of those things that make you go “why the heck didn’t I think of that?” • A nutritionist's nightmare, thick slices of pork belly are marinated in prawn paste and deep fried to a supernal crisp. Ridiculously unhealthy but also potentially more addictive than crack. It was served with a chilli sauce x soy sauce mix but honestly, I preferred it on its own. • Thanks @burpple and holy crab for the invite and hospitality!

It Got Mee Hooked HolyCrab's Hooked On Mee doesn't try to be smart and redefine Hokkien prawn mee. Instead, they churn out a smashingly savory rendition that's guaranteed to make you go "Holy Crab, this is awesome!" HolyCrab was being completely truthful when they described this dish as 'superior wok hei' yellow mee braised in seafood broth. That wonderful wok hei just adds so much character and depth to the already indulgent, sapid seafood stock. All that is rounded off with an abundance of fabulously fresh seafood, addictive deep fried egg whites and palatable pork belly. The flavorsome chili (of which there wasn't nearly enough) just adds to the deliciousness of the noodles. It'll get anyone hooked at first bite with its oceanic charms, that's for sure. This was a hosted Eatup courtesy of Burpple and HolyCrab!

Vegetable Rice Bowl ($16.90) When the guilt of over-indulgence comes crashing down on me, I look for simpler, meat-free dishes to alleviate it. Which is why I gravitated towards the "Vegetable Rice Bowl" when I was last at Wheeler's Yard. On top of the Japanese rice was a neat arrangement of braised daikon, fine French beans, bok choy, corn, silken tofu and braised mushrooms. These were finished with a splash of a light, savoury and sweet sauce for a little flavour boost. Yums!

Starters & Small Plates ($11.90-$15.90+) The venue is so unique and really quite awesome for big groups to chill the day away. I wish I could say the same about the food though (which were all beautifully presented), but each dish just felt like it was missing that "wow" factor for the price point. If you have a Citibank card like me, they were offering a 1-for-1 deal for starters and small plates - We tried the Black Pepper Lime Squid ($15.90), Truffle Fries ($15.90), Crab cakes ($11.90) and the Caesar Salad ($12.90).
